Airline Fees? Would you pay them?

We're hearing so much that airlines are continuing to start charging for things like seat selection, checked baggage, the ability to sit with children, meals, etc.

Are these things you would pay for?
How likely is it that these new fees will affect your decision to travel with a particular airline?

Charging for specific seats has pretty much been universal for years now, "the ability to sit with children" is one and the same just wrapped up in more dramatic language.
Pay for meals, on a budget or charter? You'd need to be mad to eat them for free, disgusting rubbish in the main.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

I would choose an airline that offers al a carte pricing over one that's included all the 'extras' in the price of the fare. I much prefer to pay for what I want, not for what other people want.

    I do exactly that.

Mrs Cat & I fly First Class in assigned seats, the Kittens fly in the back of the plane, wherever they get put.
They're 3 and 4 now, so they're used to it.
When they were 2, they weren't so keen - but we were to far away from them to hear them crying and caterwalling for the length of the flight. Plus, we get Bose noise cancelling headphones in the front, which are cracking.

It's not "universal", we've just booked on Croatian and could select seats free. Also Singapore recently.

And even on those who do charge for seat selection, you don't need to pay to sit with your kids. It'll be sorted either at check-in or on the plane.
