Is there a render you don't need to paint?

We live on the coast and an extension on one of our barns is K-rend finished. It's been up about 7 years and we still haven't had to give it a clean as it looks like new. Conversely our poor neighbours barn has a side wall which he had rendered. He has given up painting it as the paint peels year upon year.0

A fair comment which also backs up some previous points. First applying paint can be harmful to wall. Second, if paint is applied it must be a suitable and proven one. Third, your neighbour is applying unsuitable paint with unsuitable knowledge!
My garage wall is painted brickwork. Robust, hard wearing, breathable and dirt cheap. I did not follow the crowd. Instead I mixed up some lime wash (rough and ready, water, lime and cement) just like human beings did for centuries with satisfactory results. This thinking pre-dates Snowcem, Sandtex and others coming along yet gives a satisfactory, cheap result.0 -
Hi again. Re the parex, I didn't have their rep. I was told about it by the local builder who did the job. They just ordered it off the website. I picked the colour using the virtual house. They hacked off all the bad render, filled the gaps, did a scratch coat and then applied the parex.
Interestingly, my near neighbour had theirs done not long before me (not with parex). Their facade is already cracking in several places.
Btw, I don't have shares in parex! Just pleased with it so far and offering my 2 Penn'orth.
The 'local' rep seems to have disappeared from the contact list on their website. I can contact them through the email address on their site and get some information. Many thanks.0
