For a typical two week holiday the charge would only be around half that, so circa 80p
The woman I spoke to knew my holiday dates and offered to calculate the added interest. Are you saying that I can repay anytime I want without waiting on the statement? If so, that would be great.

Yes, you can repay any time after the charge hits your account. You could do it while abroad even if you have wifi. For a short holiday it won't save much so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

We regularly use our Clarity card to withdraw Euros in several countries and it is without question the most economical way of doing it. If you pay it off as soon as you can, rather than waiting for the paper bill, the cost of interest is negligible. The other consideration is that you get a commercial rather than a tourist rate for the exchange.

The usual caveat applies, of course. Many ATMs will ask if you wish your account to be charged in £s or €s. You need to select €s every time so that Halifax and not the bank that owns the ATM do the conversion.

I thought that it was for my Clarity, but no problem, I also have the Travelex.

    No it's not. It's a Clarity card.

That's good news. Now how and where can I get the top rate shown using my clarity card. If it was the PO I'd go there. If it was tesco, I'd go there. But where do I go to buy euros with my Clarity?

The idea of a Clarity isn't to buy Euros with it in this country. It's to withdraw from an ATM abroad. The rate quoted is the Mastercard rate. The only way you can get the Mastercard rate is to withdraw euros from an ATM while you're away. Obviously the rate varies depending on the exchange rate at the time you do the transaction.

If you want to buy euros with it in this country you'll just get the rate that the forex bureau is offering. You're not gaining anything. You may as well just buy them with your debit card.
