Monton, Worsley, etc are not north Manchester, they are west, surely? Anyway your budget won't get you a house in a trendy area as others have stated, but you could look at Swinton, particularly the area south of the East Lancs Road (A580). It borders Monton and Worsley. It's suburban, but the guided busway means there is easy access to Manchester city centre.

They are West, but north of the ship canal and with good access to the M62 so a good alternative to 'true' north Manchester which in all honesty does not contain that many nice areas of the kind the OP wants, apart from Prestwich really.

Going further north of the M60/M62 opens up more options but possibly not what they're after.

I'd also recommend Monton but with your budget you'd probably only be able to get a 2 bed flat there. South Swinton still has some nice places and is walking distance into Monton. Even there though you may have go slightly over your budget.

My sister lives in Monton and loves it there. It's handy for the motorway and the East Lancs Road, although rush hour on either isn't exactly great! I assume that would be a problem anywhere though.

Thanks for the responses guys, my budget was supposed to say 150k fyi. Obviously we realistically know that isn't going to get us into the "nicest" areas, but both of us are currently in training programmes that should see our salaries almost double of the next 3 years, so we figured we'd try and find somewhere we would rather stay, than simply buying to move again asap.

I've seen a fair few places in Radcliffe but have yet to visit, does anyone know much about the area?

Also a few places in around Worsley, but closer to Little Hulton. Been to visit and looks okay, but have heard negative things (but then you always do)

    thanks again people! :)

    Don't move to Little Hulton.
  • Anyone know much about Swinton? Or any area near Leverhulme park just outside of Bolton?
