No. It violates it's terms and conditions. If you could it wouldn't be a credit card because you wouldn't be using credit.

    From their website

"Can I put money on my card to increase my available credit whilst on holiday?

Credit cards are not designed to be used this way. Using the card in this way breaches the product's Terms & Conditions, which state:

7.7 You must not make payments or transfer funds from another credit or store card to your account that would leave a credit balance on your account. We may return any funds that exceed the balance owing on your account to the account from which the money was sent."

Yes you can, I do it several time a year. I once checked with the Halifax cashier and he said it was ok. Last time was about three weeks ago.

Both the above answers are right - it's against the T&Cs but many people do it so it doesn't look like Halifax stop you.

However, you have to ask yourself if it is worth it just to save a few quid (about 3p per £100 per day). If you card was blocked, stolen or cloned you could be on thin ground when you tried to get the money back.

Of course you can do what you want, but if you break the terms and conditions of any contract, sooner or later you can and should expect to get caught out. It seems that some people think it's ok if they break a contract, but I'm sure the same people would be complaining if the other party to the contract treated it with the same disdain.

I agree with Doshwaster. If anything happened to that card and you had breached the contract you would be on very thin ground.

If they don't want it to happen, they can easily prevent it.
It's not like you're tricking them somehow.
They're the ones breaking the contract if they allow an over payment - other cards manage to stop it.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

The risk being you discover your precious card frozen when you're overseas.

    Not worth it.
  • There aren't that many places now where you are unable to access free wifi. Use the Clarity card and transfer money when you get access to wifi.......Simples:T

I just wait until I get home. I have better things to be doing with my time on holiday than worrying about transferring money onto my credit card just to save a few pennies in interest.

Have just phoned them and you're right. But they did point out that preloading is not what the card was designed for.
