Dirty Ceilings/Walls

Options
Would really appreciate any advice...we have a solid fuel(burns wood & coal) with a back boiler. This past heating season, for the first time ever, the walls and ceilings in the living room have gotten awfully dirty. No real change in the fuels we use...smokeless/low sulphur coal ovals and the wood is always been seasoned for at least a year or longer. Help! We're about to re-decorate the room so we'd really like to avoid it happening again.

I don't claim to be an expert on solid fuel burners, but logic would seem to indicate that you've got a leak somewhere. I think a sensible first point of call would be either a chimney sweep or a service agent, who can check for leaks in either the appliance itself or the flue, and advise you accordingly.
