Amazon ( Sony) faulty item

    That is quite a result considering that that the fault may be nothing more than dirty contacts (always the first thing to check on any camera that has interchangeable lenses), and even if that is not the case your camera may still be OK and it's the lens that has developed a fault, or possible visa versa.

    Never changed lenses, and did check/clean them so this wasnt the case.

    Camera worked fine apart from being able to take photos, so I think it was the lens.

    Take the camera into a shop and try some other lenses, the fault is more likely to sit within the lens, and if that is so you still have a fine camera, and you can but some good glass on the front end with your refund.
