An upholster friend checked it and ahf have said it isn't real suede they just call it that!
At first a sales person told me that calf suede was the colour.....despite the samples having specific number codes and names for the colours?

Just to clarify, what exactly is the wording of what trading standards have said. Was this in correspondance with you or a deposition, as it were, for the court?
