  • You are doing great PSL! Debt might not be going down as fast as you would like, but a mind shift to your attitude towards money is priceless! Hope you're having a more exciting weekend than I am - I'm in bed on this with a cup of green tea xx
    Starting debt £18,675.63
    Current debt: £5,000 (16/05/18)
  • I did write a response and lost it.

Thank you everyone. Sincere and heartfelt thank you for all the encouragement, help and support.
    Frugal week coming.

  • Hey lovely,

Good luck with your frugal week!

  • AleMrsT I think you make me sound a lot more shiny and exciting than I really am! Thank you for the encouragement and taking the time to help me.

Working in London is expensive and hard. Even in winter colleagues always ask what you are doing in the evening. 12 hours work and travel is apparently not enough.

I have £8 per month lovefilm subscription and buy a lot of books in the charity shop.
But I do buy some books brand new as a treat.
Sometimes I meet men and then feel relived I am single. But I am sure this will change when it's right.
I want to pay off the loan and then pay off my credit card and overdraft with HSBC and then move my current account to a different bank.
Then at this point I will have 3 large credit cards and 1 around £1500.
To have so many sources of credit is a bit overwhelming and I imagine it will be less stressful to be down to just 4.

But for now. Watching everything. Trying to be low-key and staying in as much as possible aside from social occaissioms already planned.

Wishing everybody luck on the debt free journey.
And thank you for all the support, encouragement, time, help and patience.

  • I was thinking today my references to the possible bonus are probably not so articulate-but what I am trying to do is make a plan and make myself use it for the loan.

I am worried if I don't tell myself this early on I will book a holiday, some day trips, cosmetic surgery, and Whole days shopping.

It's more that if there is extra money and this happens I need to stop myself doing something stupid with it.
This month I have a payment holiday from my loan and it's a lovely glimpse into how things could be from April.
    Hopefully just moths to go.

  • Aw excellent, what are you going to do with the money from the payment holiday money?

April is just around the corner so you will be free of that loan before you know it.

  • Oh I could think of a good few things Dolly!

Actually April is really soon and January has flown by. It's just 2 months and my boss thinks there will be a bonus and it Is likely it will be enough to vanish the remainder of the loan!

Is this some final good news on the horizon! Too early to get excited, just 50 more sleeps.

Yesterday I paid for my exam and stayed at home on the evening. No plans today, I am really looking forward to having a day for me before full on family tommorow. xxx

  • Maybe use your payment holiday to start emergency savings account? That might help you to get a new habit of saving for stuff you want/need which will help you in the long run.

I am a bit sceptical about payment holidays as presumably you end up paying more interest don't you? Do they offer it or did you ask for it? Hopefully your bonus will be enough to pay the loan off.
