I want to record an live online stream of a presentation ceremony in July.
Are there any programs to do it? It seems most of the free ones are full of viruses.

Audacity
Excellent and free0 -
But Audacity would only record the audio, not video.0

Ok, so this isn't free but I've used various Applian tools over the years; this is reliable for video recording

The demo is limited and there may be special offers around.0 -
microsoft expression encoder 4 is free

Thanks. It looks fine and the two minutes free will just about cover the presentation.
I was going to download a program called Camstudio which is free and quite widely recommended but a quick google seems to indicate some downloads have a virus.0 -
How is the event being streamed?
If it's through one of the "live streaming" sites such as Youtube Live / Livestream / Ustream you can find browser plugins that will save the live stream to your PC.
**update**
If you're stuck you could try VLC? it can record web streams if you know the link to the video. it's free and has no time limits. Though it can be a "tiny" bit complicated to set up, but if you know the site being used to stream the event I'm sure We could give you the correct instructionsLaters

It appears it's going to be streamed by their main website. They say 'live streaming
will be available to view live on our website, for any graduates and guests
unable to attend. A recording of the ceremony will be available shortly afterwards to view
on demand.'
I use VLC but for some reason I discounted using it for this. Must have been to complicated!0 -

It certainly does. According to Virus Total 13 out of 56 antivirus engines report the Camstudio download as coming bundled with adware.
Try Any Video Recorder instead - malware free and easy to use. Typical review here.0
