Windows Live Mail blue circle

I'd appreciate any help. I've got an Acer laptop running Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail.
Everything seemed fine until recently there were messages saying the Calendar service wasn't able to sync, then over the weekend the Live Mail screen opens but the blue circle keeps rotating and the only way to close it down is by task manager
I've uninstalled Live Mail and re-installed it, used the repair link to check it but no luck. I'd like to be able to open it to access my contacts and email folders if nothing else so I could move somewhere else.

Well, I am by no means an expert but I would check that the clock on the laptop is reading the correct time first and then, if all else fails, I would restore it to a time when WLM was working. Just a thought....Tact: getting your point across without stabbing someone0

Are you using Windows live Mail to access a hotmail or outlook email address?
Have a look at this thread

My clock is OK and I saw the thread about accessing Microsoft addresses but Windows Live Mail only accessed my two Virgin Media addresses. I can access my email on Virgin Media's website but kept my folders and calendars on the Windows Mail.
I've tried in safe mode and it says it may not be installed correctly so I've tried uninstalling and installing again.
I've found links to accessing calendar on Microsoft but each time I try it says "something went wrong - try later"0 -
Just to summarise here - WLM is not reinstalling and so you cannot access (storage) folders which contain emails NOT held at Virgin.
EDIT: I don't know what the problem is with reinstalling WLM. Try this.
1. goto G:\Users\claire\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Storage Folders
You should see your folders here. And you should be able to look at individual emails.
2. go back to G:\Users\claire\AppData\Local\Microsoft\
RENAME "Windows Live Mail" to something like "WLMbackup"
Make sure you don't delete -for obvious reasons.
3. Try and reinstall WLM.
If it works this time then there was something amiss with the data/settings.
** You will have to resenter you 2 virgin account settings. **
** To recover folders :- 1. close WLM 2. COPY the CONTENTS of "WLMbackup\Storage Folders" to "Windows Live Mail\Storage Folders" NB. that's the contents of Storage Folders only.0 -
Many thanks for all that help grumpycrab. Unfortunately when I go to the appdata local line it jumps straight to a vast number of folders (rather than going via Microsoft, windows live and storage folders) all of which are empty and there is no option to rename the file.
I think this might be a sign I should finally give up on windows live mail and I will move to another email and calendar provider!
Once again many thanks for your help and I'm sorry I couldn't get it to work but it may help someone else in a similar situation.0 -
The path should have started with C: - not sure where G: came from. Probably easier to do this from the command-line. Get a computer friend to have a look for you. Perhaps you don't have anything important under Storage Folders?0
