Tuesday 31st May - What small DFW things will you do today

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

    Good morning all
Quick check in from me today as I'm just about to head out and may not get back on.
Bob - that's massive news, and a big decision to make. Good luck with it all.
So, we're off on our holiday later this morning - about 11am. I won't be on while we're away but back on Friday.
Other than that - we're off to the hairdressers now, then the rest of the morning will consist of finishing packing and getting on our way.
    See you all later!

    Good morning,

    Was off yesterday so here’s this weeks/todays list;

    - Bring breakfast and lunch into work
    - Check bank and YNAB
    - Start racking up SFD’s
    - Get a comparative quote to service my laptop
    - Send my CV out to some recruitment agencies
    - Open a help to buy account
    - Contact HMRC about my wrong tax code
    - Sell things on ebay

I’ll be chuffed if I get through all of these, at some point.

    Have a good day!

What is a SFD? No doubt obvious, but I'm unable to decode this TLA, please help.

    Morning all,
Not a massive amount planned today, but here are the few money-saving bits I'm including:
*Posted ebay parcels & updated ebay account. Done.
*Put a wash on at 5.20 a.m.... It wasn't raining & it's so windy, it seemed worth a try at getting the laundry dry. It's all pegged out & the whirlygig is flying round like a mad thing. Re-loaded washer for final load of the week overnight to make use of cheap tariff. Done.
*Did rubber lamb. It did a roast dinner yesterday. Have done a generous dish of slices & leftover gravy to make another meal, plus there's enough to make a stew for tomorrow. Bones in slow cooker for stock. Done.
*Fed the garden birds with a pot of kitchen scraps, which will eek out the bird food for a bit longer. Loads of baby blackbirds & they are mini-eating machines. Done.
*Emailed Body Shop customer services about my free gift not being in this morning's parcel. Done.
*Clear emails & urgent admin bits before they get away from me. Done.
*Make good use of the '48 hours free' offered by genealogy website which ends at midnight tonight. I used to pay for this one on subscription but cancelled to channel the money into the Car Fund, so it will be nice to progress some projects for free.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
That's pretty much all I'm intending to do today.
Bob - Cooo-er, Missis, that's a huge decision! I feel quite sad that we won't have all your funny stories about the business, but I know there have been times recently when it's been a worry & a mixed blessing for you, so best of luck with the sale. I hope you get a good price & that the new owners continue to offer a nice little indie business for the community, just like you have done.
    OK, coffee time,
    Cheers all,

Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

    Morning, All!

Beautiful weather where I am at today.

Not much to report. I had a minor incident in my car, so had to go to EuroParts to pick up a new front indicator. Luckily it was only £15.99! I'll fit it myself this evening.

In other news, I have just paid off the balance to one of my CCs that I use for expenses at work. I had to use my oil savings to clear it as the expenses won't be paid until my next payday. :( I don't need oil this month though, so it's best to use it to keep that card at 0 balance and then transfer the expenses back into the oil budget when I get them.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
BB SFD is spend free day. Another term for NSD. A rose by any other name ;) thanks for your post last night as well. When I had DS in 2008 we had just bought a large victorian doer upper and my salary was very much needed. So I went back to work when he was 8 months old. It sort of broke my heart really. By the time I was made redundant he was 2. Thats when I started my plan to set up my own business which I have done ever since.
Having had DD I do feel I'd like to do things differently. But it will benefit them both. Being self employed I often miss out on school stuff that I would love to be more a part of. So the cut backs you mention also sound doable for me.

Foxgloves thank you. As one of the original posters on this thread you have heard a lot of the good and bad days thats for sure. Thank you for the kind words.

Cat Im praying the weather picks up for your break! Its lashed it down in London today.

Thanks Bob solving that mystery, I had worked out day but I was completely stumped by the rest :o

After ds was born I also returned to work, we were also living into 2 houses, 160 miles apart (half the week in one the other half in the other) we continued this madness until I went on maternity leave at 37 weeks with dd when ds was just over 3 1/2 and I have never looked back since.
