Procedure For Flying With Hand Luggage Only

I know this seems like a basic question but if I have just hand luggage, what's the boarding procedure?

Before I have:

Waited for bag drop to open.
Dropped off bags.
Gone through security.
Gone to boarding gate.
Waited to board.
Boarded plane.

But f Inhave no hold luggage, what do I do?
I'll be checking in online, but do I just go straight to security?

OUT JOURNEY:
Is with Ryanair. How/when do they check bag weight/size if I go straight to security? They state they allow 90 bags in the lockers, all others go in the hold - but I guess I must visit the bag drop anyway?

IN JOURNEY:
With Jet2. Says I can just go straight to security.

Any help?

It's brilliant! I fly Easyjet three times a year and I rock up at Gatwick one hour before take off and walk straight through security ( well, queue, get patted down and asked a load of questions) then walk straight to the gate, get on plane put bag in overhead locker. I always book a aisle seat close to the front and when we land I am in a taxi within ten minutes. It's the future!

there will likely be a measuring cage/scales at the boarding gate where they will remove oversized baggage and take payment for them
If within the size/weight guide but not in the first 90 bags, they will remove and tag at the gate and put in the hold for free

Jet2 will likely have a measuring cage at the boarding gate too

    Thanks 🙂
I thought this might be the case. My first trip without a proper suitcase.

Go straight to security don't go to the bag drop........
I have flown Ryanair & Jet2 lots recently & they both seem to have stopped the stupid bag size checks at Leeds Bradford / Murcia / Alicante.
Certainly nobody seems to be weighing bags at the boarding gate now.
Measuring cages are still there but rarely used, although most people seem to keep within the limits visually.
As to 'first 90 bags' its all a bit hit & miss. It depends on how full the plane is in my experience.
At the boarding gate the staff walk up & down the queue asking people if they want to put their bags in the hold free of charge.......you can say no if you want..........
If your bag goes in the hold you could be delayed at the other end waiting at the bag pick up belt.
I take a bag small enough to go under the seat the there is never problems with space & overhead lockers.
If you don't get on the plane in the in the fist 80-90 people you can end up having to put your bag in a locker well away from your actual seat.
Then you have problems getting off quickly when your bag is halfway down the plane.

Have your travel documents and any valuables handy so you can take them out to keep with you if your bag has to go into the hold.

You should try LCY sometime; pre-print your boarding card, and you can stroll through security and go straight to the gate in about ten minutes from getting to the airport as its so small; I never even get patted down or asked Q's like worried Jim (but then I don't wear combat kit like his Avatar does). Costs maybe £50 more to Spain or Italy but it beats that 3am drive to Gatwick or Stasted for the 6am Ryanair red-eye; and as a dedicated moneysavingexperter, I get to London City on me bus pass thanks to Ken and Boris!

Keep a bag within your bag.

Then you can easily rescue passport, medications, chargers and other travel documents if your bag does find its way off to the hold.

If you have a smartphone get the Ryanair app - lets you download boarding passes. Not particularly useful for your trip, but good bit of practice with a printed pass in your pocket as back-up. Comes into its own when travelling back with Ryanair - you just need a wifi hotspot, not a printer (unless you always buy seats anyway and can print both ways before you travel).

You won't look back :) I now always travel ultra-light for trips of 5 days or less - everything in a 35x20x20 bag so it's guaranteed to stay in the cabin with me.

If it's going to be cold I wear a jacket and a couple of fleeces which have the advantage of plenty of pockets that can be stuffed.

Ryanair also allows a second bag, i.e. laptop bag, small backpack or handbag so that's where my valuables go, and I couldn't give a toss if the wheelie is put in the hold or not.

It's a fairly large handbag too, but once it fits under the seat in front it seems to be ok.

    Happy days!

Sorry haven't used the other airlines you mention, so am not sure of their second bag policy.
