A friend and his wife are going to Morocco shortly.
A search of the internet reveals that, you are only allowed to take a maximum of 1,000 Dirham into and out of the country.
As 1,000 doesn't seem very much (currently ~ £191), I suggested getting 2,000, and he and his wife carry 1,000 each, but he's concerned that it might still cause trouble.
Can someone confirm (ideally with a link to an official source), whether the 1,000 Dirhams is per person, or per couple.
Also, how strict are they, on the 1,000 Dirham limit, and what happens if you are a bit over?
Seizure? Prosecution?

Up to 1000 MAD is tolerated, but not sure why anyone would think that 2 people taking that much would cause problems. It's got nothing to do with how many people are going.
1000 is about £70, not £190.0 -
Irrelevant...
Crazy to buy Dirham here since the exchange rate would be so much worse than there... just take a travel card and pull them out of the ATM at the airport.0 -

Ramsdens are currently offering 5.2182 Dirhams to the pound.
By my calculations, that's £191-64 for 1,000 Dirhams.
To be £70, you would need an exchange rate of ~ 14.29.0 -
The mid rate is currently 14.228 dirham to the pound. That's MAD1000 = GBP70.28

5.2182 is for AED, not MAD.0 -

I didn't realise there were two different Dirhams.

There's more than two - but those are the main ones.0

Well if you wait till you get there as suggested, as well as likely getting a much better rate you can be sure you're getting the right currency!0
