price of apples!
I've just paid £2.73 in the Co-Op for two apples
..and another £1.17 for a small cooking apple
Is this normal? Perhaps the variety I bought are out of season. They weren't even organic or anything like that. I'm sure apples are not usually that pricey!

I just bought 12 for £1 from the market.
Co-op do tend to be a little pricey, but I regularly buy a bag of 6 or so apples for £1.50
Didn't you see the price before you bought them, or ask at the checkout?
It's possible they were mis-entered on the POS system (decimal place shifted across perhaps). That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

They were individual apples sold by weight and I only realised when I'd got to the till how much they were I know pink ladies are usually a bit more expensive but I'm sure they're not usually £1.50 each
receipt says 0.785kg @ £3.49 per kilo..0 -
 Well, we're out-of-season for apples in the UK at the moment but imports are ususally much cheaper than that. I can normally get a bag of 8 apples with change from £1 from the supermarket.
I'm partial to an apple but I would have walked away from them at that price, I'm afraid, being a natural born tightwad.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Two apples at 785g aren't small apples - I think 150/160g is more common.
800g is a standard bag of 6 apples.
Tesco has them down at £3.25 per kilo, but approx 55p each.

That sounds expensive.
From memory - the last bag of apples I bought (5 I think?) was £1.75 from T*sco. Organic ones as per usual.0 -

Co Op pack of wraps £1.29
Waitrose pack of wraps 90p
Guess where I went
But Co Op are cheap as chips for cigarettes £5.99 compared to £6.39 in Waitrose.
So its Co Op for ciggys and Waitrose for wraps. The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.0 -
They don't look that big. I'm tempted to go and weigh them myself now, lol
Sounds a good idea. Apples are about the same density as water, so to be 785g total they would need to be about the size of a mug each. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I'm glad I asked on here! I've just weighed the 2 apples and they're 311g
Co-Op must have mis-weighed them, grrr.
I'll be more careful in future when shopping!0
