purchased a desktop all in one pc on 4th of February 2016 which has developed a fault the screen is coming away at the top called hp who have offered a repair but i'm not happy as they are saying will take pc away and repair could take up to 28 days but time starts when it gets to repair centre and postage dates dont count also a bit disgruntled that it has happened within less than 3 months. called lttlewoods who i bought the computer from and they said cant do anything i have stated that it would be a significant inconvenience as my husband studies and worked from home using the computer and we don't have another available even asked if the could give us something to use in the meantime no. I asked what he would do without pc as wouldn't be able to study etc. and he said he could use the library which i argued was unreasonable as he would have to pay fuel, parking and costs to use computer in library while still paying our weekly payments on the computer is this really now classed as reasonable on their part? they are taking me in circles i have stated about my rights and he said that 28 days once it is in the repair centre is right regardless of collection and delivery times and that the terms 'significant inconvenience' are not actually defined as by the law so was reasonable to suggest library with extra costs for us while still paying weekly fees wont budge at all. I then asked if it was moral to use that against consumer and he said he wasn't so please help where do i go from here??????

Yes it's reasonable. And you can't use working from as an excuse as you didn't buy it as a business (I'm guessing)
28 days is not unreasonable to be without a computer monitor. Sorry0 -
Ok I don't have a business we paid over £1300 for the item and I'm gutted I did now no help from them at all it doesn't seem reasonable as I have read many complaints of people having the same issue online and it is going to be at cost to us to have it sent away with using the library every day my husband has to do up to 40hrs online study a week for his course so parking petrol etc is going to be extortionate for us0

What would significant inconvenience mean then under the new law ??0

Your rights under the Consumer Regulations are against the vendor not HP .
No point quoting that law and inconvenience to HP they are not liable .
What do you require in the way of reasonableness ?? from the vendor .
As the machine is going to be away and you say it will be a significant inconvenience .What you need is to cost this inconvenience in real and reasonable terms and ask the vendor for that amount .0 -
Ok thanks I'm talking with the vendor not Hp so will return to them and let them know this and see what they say am I in my right to request this amount and obviously receipts etc will need to be provided I mean the cost of the inconvenience does it have to be given or am I wasting my time??0

If you mean do you have any automatic statutory rights to a payment for inconvenience, then the answer would have to be no, however that does not stop you asking for a goodwill gesture from Littlewoods. HP, have said up to 28 days, but it may be a lot less.
If parking and petrol are going to cost a lot and it seems only the monitor is at fault, it might be cost effective to look on ebay (local collect) or even freecycle for a monitor to use while yours is being repaired. I went down to the tip(recycle plant) to drop off some rubbish recently and there were lots of monitors there. People tend to often view them as disposable when getting new kit.0 -

I would be calling the retailer, this is who your contract is with, not HP.
Given the turn around time for assessment/repair, you might be better getting a refund and buying a replacement - elsewhere. In fact, rather than guilt tripping the person on the other end of the phone, you might find that argument more useful.
Look for reviews of any pc..,that's an awful lot to pay for a desktop. I'm sure there are better buys around, but I suppose you bought it from there because of the monthly payments. Personally I'd expect to pay half that for a half decent gaming pc.., which I doubt you'd need to help your husband study.
I had a HP laptop which broke just outside of warranty. Because of the customer services I received (not good), I will never buy anything HP again. This was some years ago and I haven't.
Do you know anyone who could lend you a basic laptop or pc?
Whatever you decide, make sure you back up (save to memory stick or compact disc) any of your husband's work. If you send the pc off for repair, it may be wiped.0 -

Societys child, you are right, I missed that....so the modem is built into the monitor screen as opposed to being a seperate unit.0 -

Lol 28 days without a computer is rediculous, not reasonable by my standards.0
