I agree but the supermarkets will always want ' their cut' of the price increase regardless of their promises to farmers and customers.
It's a high volume product, think of how much can be gained even if the supermarket take just 1p back per bottle. The more I live, the more I learn.

How little I know.!!

Hi many replies thanks.
I heard on the radio (and I think someone else posted the same) that the wholesale price of milk is at all time lows. If this is the case then the shops are creaming off the profits here!¬? If you pardon the pun. As the price in shops has been raised from 79p to 95p even though price to farmer has fallen.
Farmer ripped off. Consumers ripped off.0 -

"According to the most recent Defra figures, the average UK farmgate price stood at 21.59ppl in April. This was a 0.77ppl (3.4%) decrease on the March average price. The April 2016 price was 3.04ppl (12.3%) lower than the same month last year."0 -

At 79p the shops would have been making a loss. In fact I'm not convinced the supermarkets really make that much money on it at 95p for 4pints. If it is 22p per litre to the farmer, that is 48p, then the distribution and collection costs, pasteurisation and bottling and delivery to supermarket.0 -
I do wonder how much money is given to farmers by Cravendale as their milk is £1.50-£2 for 2 litres, which is about 3.5 pints. if its the same as normal milk, then what a mark up - c.doubling by filtering itThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Good point. And this suggests Arla aren't paying any more than anyone else:

Lower margins on the 'Cravendale' Arla supply to Aldi, though - it sells at £1.09 for 2 litres.0 -
Noticed today that a 4 pint of milk is now up to 99p at Aldi. I wonder how they justify this latest price rise?0

Thats still a really cheap price for what milk is and I can remember prices around £1.45 around 10 years ago.0 -
