Car order Cancelled by Skoda

I ordered a new Skoda Superb car via new-car-discount.com on the 29th of February 2016. I paid a deposit, car was manufactured to my specification and it arrived (apparently) in the UK on the 9th of May. Delivery was arranged for the 6th of June and I received an invoice for this on the 25th of May with Car Registration, Chassis and Engine numbers on it. Today I got an email from New Car Discount as below:

Really bad news I’m afraid. With immediate effect our discount terms have been stopped from Skoda, the dealer who was supplying us shouldn’t have been supplying us and Skoda have got wind of it and pulled the plug meaning we are no longer able to supply the car.

I’m really sorry about this and know it will be very frustrating, especially after the long wait – for us as well as we have taken numerous orders.

We are in negotiation with another dealer to get more discount terms which could take a couple of weeks but whether or not we can negotiate the same level of discount I’m not sure..

I have asked accounts to refund your deposit in full and again please accept my apologies.

I have been left without a car as I allowed my lease car to be collected last week as I was expecting this. But being self employed and without a car I cannot allow this to drag on. Do I stand any chance of getting the car?

Assuming the broker is telling you the truth (?), and it hasn't already been sold, then the car you ordered is sitting somewhere in the Skoda dealer network. If you give them the spec. your local Skoda dealer may be able to get it for you, although most likely not at the price you expected.

Was this a pre-reg vehicle or are you the first registered keeper? As you've already been told the full registration it sounds like it's a pre-reg, in which case the supplying dealer has probably been playing fast and lose with the manufacturer and been caught out.

Got to be worth a quick call to Skoda Customer Services to start with. (oh, it's Friday on a bank holiday weekend)

I'd ask on Briskoda which is a large Skoda forum and there could be other people in the same position or seen this happen before:

    http://www.briskoda.net

Their message doesn't make much sense, they say they're working with another dealer but then I'd assume that would be a new order which would then be a further delay?

I had a look for reviews and they've got excellent ratings on Trustpilot but the tone of the reviews to me is suspicious, most of the reviewers have only written one or two reviews and they seem to be overly positive.

    From their website:

"When comparing our new car prices against your local dealer we politely ask that you use some discretion, feel free to see what discounts you can achieve locally, but please refrain from mentioning our name or site".

Why would that be then? Looks like they are using 'interesting' tactics to sell cars and in this case they were caught out.

The only brokers to use are those who put you in contact with the supplying dealer.

Take the money back and see it as a close shave.
  • It wasn't pre reg, it was a factory order. The company has been trading for 13 years, I could not find a bad word said against them on trust pilot and many on the Skoda Forum had bought from them previously, all with nothing but praise.
  • Yeah, I had checked on Briskoda first. Many had purchased and received their cars from NCD and where happy. Looks like I am not alone, at least three others had their car cancelled tonight,
  • Thanks, will wait and see if Skoda get back to me on Tuesday. Don't want a dealer to bag it, if they haven't already.

If I was you I would speak to NCD and find out which dealer was supplying it. Knowing dealers they wouldn't be too happy either and would be keen to get rid of it by the end of the month ie Tuesday.

If they won't tell you you should be able to make an educated guess from the reg number they have given you, ie the first two letters let you know roughly where in the country it's been registered.

Speak to the sales manager or general manager and explain the situation and the deal you've agreed.

To be fair I don't see SKODA head office being able/willing to help as you were dealing with a third party.
