I'm wondering if I should start bulk-buying prior to 23rd June just in case?!
If we go back (economically) to the 1970s, as some say we should, you should stock up on candles for all those power cuts we'll be getting back;)

Off topic but still to do with VAT and duty. Gordon Brown tried to increase the duty-free allowances for individuals bringing goods into the country, for example new trainers and 3ft Mickey Mice from Florida, straw donkeys from Benidorm. As I remember he wanted to increase it to £1,000 but wasn't able to as the limit was EU-wide.

I'm looking forward to this increase going through if we do exit, so I can bring home more expensive items from my jaunts in the US.

This is my only selfish wish, I am taking the rest of the referendum seriously.

They're already jittery. The only fortunate thing is that the US is on shaky ground where the next president could be a megolamaniac Oompa Loompa. Add to that that the Eurozone is still rocky too.

No one denies (though plenty hush it up) that Brexit would cause immediate chaos for at least a year and up to ten.

Here's Martin Lewis' blog on the matter, a good impartial guide http://blog.moneysavingexpert.com/2016/06/05/how-to-vote-in-the-eu-referendum/?_ga=1.118735305.1765722428.1454277474

Very true! Martin's guide is really helpful; thanks.

I don't remember that (the Benidorm straw donkeys are, at present duty free anyway, as they're within the EU).
It's an often used ploy of politicians to attempt something they know they can't get through and then blame someone or something else when they can't.
I could see a change in import duty but it would be more in line with a standardised rate worldwide, so we'd have a higher US tariff but there would be an EU one to make up for it.
The whole import duty is a mess worldwide, it needs increased cooperation between countries, the more alliances there are the better that would be. There's something to be said for letting a group you belong to negotiate on your behalf, it saves time, money and effort.
