Solitary Jobs?

Do you know of any occupations with little human contact, pls? Are there any solitary jobs left?

I have about 20 years to go until retirement but working in an open-plan office will kill me sooner if I can't escape.

Thanks for any ideas. :o

Street-cleaning strikes me as quite solitary, especially if you end up driving one of those little electric sweepers.

Lighthouse keeper, lorry driver, operating one of those tower cranes (ok you talk to people but don't have much contact with them) and many types of self-employment like farmer, bee-keeper etc.

Night porter in a expensive hotel outside of London might be up your street.
  • Football referee.
  • I work from home in IT, I barely see a soul. I'm on plenty of phone calls though. Working in an open plan office is a nightmare :)

If you can wear them to work, try noise cancelling headphones they are a boon for the open plan office.
Like Ringo I work from home and love it and am so much more productive.

writer, work from home admin/customer service/sales. unfortunately, a low level of human contact often (NOT always) means accepting a job that is below your skills/abilities
