Storing iPad photos without a computer

Hi all,
I'm confused! We don't have a computer to speak of ( recently burgled ) and so opted to pay for iCloud storage to help store our 1000s of iPhone / iPad photos. However, I've been looking today and our iPad is running out of memory, mainly due to the photo library, and everything I've read suggests that if I delete from the library I will lose from iCloud too? ( therefore what's the benefit of iCloud I ask!!)

So, firstly, I welcome thoughts on if this sound right? And secondly what are my options? We've just joined Amazon prime - is their photo storage the same, or would that work? Rally welcome any thoughts...

I guess the benefit is backup and safety. Don't know if there is an option of saving only.

    Google Drive? Picasa?
The former offers free 15Gb, and I see 17.4Gb in my Picasa that I don't use. Don't know if the free space offered by Google Drive and Picassa are independent.

Do you have "optimise iPad storage" activated in your settings as this reduces the amount of memory required for your photo's. I find that most of my storage memory is taken up by the apps that I've added, removing the ones I've not used for a long time helps, my iPad is the 16gb version.

If you have Amazon Prime then you can get unlimited photo storage. You also get 5gb of free space for videos as well. I currently have 15,000 photos stored on it. Just download the app 'Amazon Photo'

Thanks all. So with Amazon prime photos can I delete from iPad safely in the knowledge that they are stored on prime?

Problem with prime, as far as I'm concerned, is the annual fee, also remember that you will probably loose all your photos if you stop your prime membership.

All you need to do here is turn on the optimize photo storage option in the settings of your iPad. Nothing else required.

I recently helped someone in a similar position upload their photos from the iPad to Google Drive. From there I was able to burn them to DVDs and they have deleted them from the iPad, freeing up memory, but happy in the knowledge they have them on DVD and on Google Drive, from where they can still view them on their iPad.

Thanks all. I have optimised storage already, and still have nearly 2GB being used up.

Am a prime member anyway, so prob the best option
