Another windows 10 query

I have a desktop PC and a laptop both with Windows 7. However, recently I bought another laptop with preinstalled Windows 10. I have had a couple of problems with the new laptop : It does not have Windows Live Mail which I prefer because you can store copy emails in files which you can't do on the email package provided with 10. Also, I downloaded Google Chrome which seemed to work fine and now will not load. I have tried to resolve these problems but with no luck. Basically, I HATE Windows 10 as I do not use half of the stuff on it like Cortana amongst other rubbish. My question is, can I wipe Windows 10 and install Windows 7?

WLM is available on 10(**); http://g.live.com/1rewlive5-web/en-gb/wlsetup-web.exe
Regarding Chrome. Try a reinstall. If still a problem right-mouse-click chrome and select properties. Go to compatibility Tab and check "run this program in compatibility mode" select win 8.
The preinstalled Windows 10 laptop won't have downgrade rights to 7.

(**) but not a good idea if your email address is outlook.com; hotmail.com, live.com etc

You can make Windows 10 look and feel more like the Windows 7 you like on your other machines. I'd start by killing Cortana, which is pretty easy to do. Just google it. :)

Thanks. I had already downloaded it from the Windows Essential link but it has never worked correctly. Its unstable and currently refuses to open at all. I think there is something in Windows 10 which blocks it. I have a friend with W.10 who also has problems - WLM comes and goes at whim.

As for changing to W.7 - I wondered whether it was possible to take it to my local computer shooter and ask him to completely wipe 10 and install 7. Surely that's possible?

I did disable Cortana but that isn't the only thing I don't like. There are lots of things which are deliberately hidden from clear sight. I don't like the start up panel nor all the stupid tiles that I have no interest in whatsoever. That's just a selection of what I hate about W.10. Sorry to all those who love it.:D

Yes, of-course Windows7 can be put on it. A shop will charge £50+ for a license plus an hours labour.

If he can supply you with a legitimate copy of 7, of course it's possible. Any machine running 10 will almost certainly be capable of running 7.

If you install 7 now the machine will constantly badger you to upgrade to 10, including if you've turned on windows update with auto install updates just automatically upgrading you back to 10 without your consent.

Even if you go out of your way to avoid the upgrade, sooner or later it'll be forced upon you.

My advice is to just accept 10, learn it, resolve whatever niggles are causing it to not run right.

If you turn off Cortana it's not visually much different to 7 at all...

Try this link for a tutorial on Windows 10. I sent it to a neighbour for whom I was installing a Windows 10 system and it gave him a good start in learning. He jumped from XP to 10 without the "benefit" of 7, 8 or 8.1 and is now getting on fine with only a couple of questions per week.
