I have reposted this here to see if anybody can help
Not sure where to post this.
My daughter has started to receive phone calls from debt collectors on her mobile, but they are not for her.
She has not got any debt (apart from student maintenance loan). The first one ask to speak to "another person" daughter replied she'd never heard of this person, so they said sorry your not who we are looking for.
Today another company rang and left a message to call them back and sent her a text message, again she rang and said she thought they were after the wrong person, again they agreed and apologised
This is really upsetting my daughter as she has no idea how they have got her number, which she has had for the last four or five years.
Has anybody got any suggestions on what she should do, ignore them or reply that they have a wrong number.
Is there any chance they can pin this on her just from an incorrect phone number?

When they ring again, be very firm. Tell them they have the wrong number and tell them they must remove the number from their list.
Are they asking for your daughter by her name?
We had this a lot not long after we moved into the current house but it's stopped nowTreat other's how you like to be treated.

Sing to them
Read them a story
Block the number
Tell the a joke
Tell them to foxtrot Oscar
Buy a whistle and blow on it hard when they start to speak
As for the absolutely absurd question - the fact you even asked makes me ashamed at the education provided in this country ( no of course not )0 -
Thanks for the replies no they ask for somebody else0

Assuming she's got a smartphone there's an app you can get called "Should I Answer?". It's available on Android at least, so I guess it's probably on others.
It uses a community list, giving you a rating whenever a number not in your phonebook calls. You can also click More Info while the phone rings and it'll usually tell you straight away who it is.
Debt collectors - a little unfairly perhaps as some of them do call for a reason (not in your daughter's case of course!) - generally get negative ratings, and you can set the app to automatically block negatively rated numbers, which will include scammers, PPI/accident numpties and all that too.
And if any do get through, you can just get the app to block them once you know who it is.She would always like to say,
Why change the past when you can own this day?0 -
Can't she just block each number? Saves her the bother of speaking to them, and a lot less nasty than blowing a whistle down the phone.
Sometimes people give out an incorrect or fictitious number; other times, the recipient makes a mistake when taking the number down. I've no idea why, but some firms in Bournemouth think I have a HA property there and keep texting or calling to arrange appointments. I ask them who they think they are speaking to and when I give them my name & location, they are always really apologetic and promise to remove my details from their database.0 -
I'd just block the numbers.0

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Or ask the company for their name and write to them telling them to remove them from their list as this is classed as harassment .0
