Ok , thank you everyone, obviouslyI am in a minority here, I should never have even started this post and will now drop replying as most of you seem to think I am making a fuss about nothing. Maybe getting so little back is acceptable for people. But I made my point and sadly I am being told that it was clear from the start. Yes, maybe it is on the fees but translating it top actual returns was my issue.

No one said "getting so little back" is acceptable, but your OP is about the "rip off" of Ebay fees. There is NO rip off.

You should have an idea of your items worth before listing. Search other similar items and see what prices they are getting. I have loads of junk I could list for 99p but wouldn't as I suspect they would go for the starting price and so would not be worth the trip to the post office.

But your opening post was about an item which sold for over £800 and you were complaining about the fees. Had you advertised elsewhere you may not have got over 800 for it and at auction it would have cost far more in fees.

Give you £1 items to your local charity shop and receive some good karma in return.

The other benefit is you aren't cluttering ebay up with tat.

Marliepanda,You really are not helping are you? Ebay actually suggest that you start pricing items at 99p to get the interest and pricing higher means they sit there. So good for you if you have great sales with all you sell.

A small bit of research would have told you NEVER to start items at
99p ( unless you were happy to get .99p)

Many people get free listings-so it would have made sense to start the item at , say £4, then if it didn't sell to drop the price next time.
I do this all the time, the downside being it takes longer to sell.

I suspect what you are actually complaining about is that your item only sold for .99p?
    Lesson learned.:(

I stopped selling on Ebay because of the fees, I knew what the fees were and said no.

You also had that choice, there is no point coming on here moaning about something that is your own fault, the fees aren't hidden your fault not theirs.

This thread needs to be on the vents board, it's not a consumer rights issue.

OP Inidentally there is a dedicated ebay (and others) board here on MSE if you do decide to sell anything again in the future. There is a sticky postage thread on that board that also explains about seller protection and covers the need (or not) to use signed for on low cost items .
