Ebay fees rip off

I recently sold something for my partner and went into my selling account to check on the deducted fees. I was horrified to find that the item he sold at £850 had £114 in fees.:( Then I decided to check some of my recent cheap sales...a couple of items of clothing at £1 each. The actual fees were postage FVF at 0.40p, FVF at 10p and PPaypal fee at 37p. This meant that out of the actual £1 item sold , I received 13p!
I have now stopped selling on there immediately . Ebay are ripping people off to the point of us working for them. I suggest everyone checks their seller account if they have not already done so. I have never had much luck with Gumtree here as people just fail to turn up so have resorted to facebay now although there is sometimes the same issue - at least with ebay, people pay upfront but the cost to me is not worth it. I wonder how may are aware of this rip off?

I am aware that the ebay fee is 10%, both on postage and item, so your postage charges were £4.

I am also aware the paypal fee is 3.4% + 20p.

I am not sure how a 10% fee is 'us working for eBay' for 10% of your item price you get access to a wider audience to sell to.

PLUS theres almost always discounts on FVF's, recently there was one where the max FVF was £3 so I listed a few things I knew would reach over £30 to get my moneys worth.

To be honest I dont understand how you can feel ripped off. The fees are there to see before you list and you are advertising in a massive market place.

I sell a lot and work on the theory that Im going to be paying 15% in fees between Ebay and Paypal but still do ok.
Obviously its not worth selling an item at 99p as yu are straight on a loser especially since Ebay have been taking 10% on the postage fee as well.

Is that to show that they've been charged the fees that are due. eBay fees are very transparent, I'm not sure why you feel ripped off.

Marliepanda, I am obviously missing something then. And I am surprised that you seem so laid back of these charges. The postage was second class recorded to cover delivery as I have been stung before where people say it was never received and ebay favour the buyer despite getting proof of postage. So not helpful I am afraid

Perhaps you missed the fees page?

theonlywayis, I thought it was obvious that I feel ripped off when you see how the fees affect selling items cheaply and often a low starting price is the only way to get an interest. I am stunned that no one seems to think this is unfair. Obviously I am in a minority and others seem happy to pay these charges and get so little back for cheap sales

I am surprised you seem so affronted by them, when they are clear.

I was not 'judging' your postage, I am just saying I know it was £4 as you got charged 40p. I increase my postage costs 10% to cover the eBay fee on the postage (which was brought in to stop people circumventing fees by selling an item for 99p with a £50 postage charge)

I am not sure what is 'not helpful' you want to use the reach of eBay and reach many buers, then your 10% charge is what you pay.

Paypal is still a safe and reliable way of getting money, and for that you pay your 3.4%

Unless I am missing something. No one forces you to sell on Ebay and Ebay list their fees for ALL to see.

How can you feel or be ripped off?
