    Well, the thing is.

This is MSE and we should all look at our spending and how out of control (or not) it is and take charge of such.

If the OP proudly puts in their sig that they are £14K in debt (+ Mortgage) surely the advice is Stop spending

They are possibly not Money Savvy (or maybe unlucky) as they have just overspent by £200 on what I assume (holiday of a Lifetime ) will not be cheap.
debt is debt. Shoul we not go a holiday until the mortgage and car are paid off?

It won't be, I've just looked at some prices on Thomson for Costa Rica, the deposits seem to be around £125 per person and that could be a low deposit, I didn't go far enough into a booking to find out, all I do know is that we're going to Spain with Thomson in August and the full deposit would've been £200 per person.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world
  • Another top tip....

Never ever ask a fellow pax on a plane how much they paid for their ticket. Their answer is more than likely to kiss* you off.

Some you win, some you lose.

BTW....2 weeks last minute AI with TOM now as low as £652.

My experience is that you will always come across people on holiday who like to brag that they've had a real bargain, most of the time it's BS.

Blindman is there any reason to be so rude to the OP here or is it just a kick you get from having a pop at somebody else ?

Rude is an understatement regarding your post, Better off keeping thoughts like this to yourself in future rather than trying to belittle people, Childish bullying behaviour that you should have left behind in the school playground many years ago.

If finding out that your holiday is cheaper than you paid is likely to hack you off, best not to look once you've booked.

I do look - I feel pleased (smug? :D) if it's more expensive but just shrug if it's cheaper.

Holiday prices are pretty fluid anyway.
You could hang on hoping the price will go down but you might then find that the flight that was really convenient for you has sold all the seats and you have to travel much further (thus eroding any saving you might have made by waiting) or the accommodation you really wanted is now fully booked.

If you're happy with the price, book it and then don't worry about what you might have paid and certainly don't get into a conversation with another guest about prices.

    Enjoy your holiday.
  • Why would you think you might be entitled to get the difference deducted? You booked at a price you were happy with. How on earth could TOs keep a track if they had to refund everytime there was a price drop? They would be amending bookings on sometimes a daily basis. Also the opposite should apply in that case, and when the price rises by eg £400 each they then add that on to your outstanding balance. It would be impossible. They don't ask for the extra when the prices increases, so you can't have it back if the price decreases You can't have it both ways.

If you read their sig they have £14k of debt + the mortgage.

    Is this MSE or not?

Just thought the debt was the Elephant in the room.
