Thomson Holidays

Hi,

My OH and I finally decided to commit to the holiday of a life-time to Costa Rica. After spending weeks of searching for the best price, we booked. So today I am really disappointed to see that our dream holiday has been reduced in price by over £200.

Has anyone had anything similar, and been successful in asking for the difference to be taken of their booking?

    I am afraid this happens.

The only answer is not to look at the price after you book then you won't be disappointed.

You have no chance in getting the difference back from Thomson.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

sh*t happens. You could ask them, but i wouldnt hold out much hope of getting anything back.

I suppose that if you looked at the holiday after you had booked and it had gone up by £200 you would be phoning Thomsons and giving them the £200 extra, yes?

£200 divided by the two of you, spread over a 2 week holiday is only £7 a day, when you think about it that way it's not so bad.
But try not to think about it at all. Prices go up and down, there are probably people who paid more than you as well.

Should you not be concentrating on reducing your £14K debt rather than taking "Holidays of a lifetime"

    Just a thought.

And as other have said-No refund because you bought at the wrong time.

    Well, the thing is.

This is MSE and we should all look at our spending and how out of control (or not) it is and take charge of such.

If the OP proudly puts in their sig that they are £14K in debt (+ Mortgage) surely the advice is Stop spending

They are possibly not Money Savvy (or maybe unlucky) as they have just overspent by £200 on what I assume (holiday of a Lifetime ) will not be cheap.

WOW. I did not expect to be judged on asking a simple question. Reading Money Savings Expert Email regularly and seeing all the 'check easy jet prices get the difference back' just made me wonder, if it applied to other aspects of bookings.

And not that it is any of your business, but I am repaying as much as I can to my debts every month, in excess of a third of my salary by DD, and every penny I can spare over that. The key part here was my OH who does not share my debts (but will often help anyway) wanted to treat us both, since we both work hard holding down second jobs. But because I am the one who is always counting the pennies and trying to find the best deal, even more so when it's not my money, I thought it was worth asking the question! So yes, I guess I am lucky. Lucky to have such a lovely OH who wanted to treat me to something nice!

    Then edit your signature.

Boasting\advertising that you are £14K in debt and then spending God know what on Holidays is not MSE IMHO.

Sounds like you want lots of nice things...Don't we all.

    Who pays the Mortgage?

If the OH wants to treat you-get him to pay the debts

check easy jet prices get the difference back

easyJet are the exception rather than the rule in this case.

Holiday prices are dynamic and rise and fall a lot based on loads of factors. As another poster said, if the price increased you wouldn't be offering Thomson more.

There'll no doubt be people there that spent a lot more than you as well. Swings and roundabouts! Just look forward to the holiday that's the main thing!

Also with easyjet you dont get money back if the prices drop you get easyjet vouchers which can only be used on future flights, which is of course better than nowt
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right
