pedantic I know , but tour previous statement said "Never seen one that covers programs "

    M/S office is a program
MS Office is not a programme. It is a suite of several programmes.

If you have registered on the 'giveaway' site, and still have your password, etc., you can just logon with your details on your new PC, after googling this:
    https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/about/

Any programmes from the old PC should be available this way, your account will stay the same. You need to tell us :
*What Operating System is on your old PC - Windows 7, or other?
    * What O/S you are likely to have on the next PC?
    * Is there any data (files/folders/documents etc) that you want to transfer?

As has been said, programmes have to be installed again, if you have an account from the old PC, for a programme you install on the new PC, that makes it easier. Do you have a printer, or other device that connects to your PC? If upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10, for example, some older devices and programmes, may not work.

It can be made easier to transfer stuff, if (a) both O/S are the same and (b) you can either remove the old Hard drive and install it into the new PC alongside the new Hdd, or (c) install the old Hdd in an external case and connect to the new PC. I can advise you furter when I know answers to the above questions.
Thanks for all the replies. I'll look into all your recommendations. I've never actually registered with Giveawayoftheday, so don't know if that's an option. The pc I'm using now is Vista, and I'm buying a Windows 7 machine.

MS Office is a suite of programmes but with a single installer (or programme). You can't uninstall Excel, for example, without using the Office installer to do it.

tl;dr ... you're both right in some way, but PG is the Animal Farm pig. :D

Still on the subject of the new pc. The pc is sold initially without an operation system as such. I could have a 30day trial of Windows 7 installed, or buy Windows 7 to be installed for at a price. They say they don't have any left, and Microsoft have stopped selling it, but I can still have the 30 day trial if I want. The other option is to have Windows 10 for £10 more than what Windows 7 was. Am I right in thinking that Windows 10 was offered free as an upgrade, but I'd need the full licensed version of Windows 7? I'm still doubtful about Windows 10. And what should I be paying for Windows 10, or Windows 7. I've never had to buy, it's always come pre-loaded.

is the PC worth the price asked without a OS , ?

say no to a 1 mth free trial , that will be windows without the licence key being entered ,

forget win 7 for a moment , what is the price for win 10 installed and running

add that to the price and see if it is still a bargain ##

** yes I know you can buy win 7 keys on ebay , but a retail machine should come with OS

It's £85 extra for Windows 10 installed, and CD's are provided.

As an outside chance try Belarc Advisor.

    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
I've ended up taking the drive out, and putting it in a caddy to transfer files. Would Belarc Advisor still find the registration keys/serial numbers from an external drive, or is there some other method. This is the good thing about Ashampoo. Any of their software I have downloaded, whether free or paid for, keep the registration keys in your account, so you just copy and paste.
