I'm hoping to get a new pc in a few days. Some of the software I use on my old pc, was obtained free from sites like Giveawayoftheday.com, where it has to be installed and set up on the day, or you lose it. I'm sure I've heard that you can transfer programs from one pc to another, but I don't know much about it. Can this be done? If so, what's the best software to do it? A few of the programs I never use, but haven't got round to removing them, so I would prefer to be selective what I transfer, if that's possible.

data yes , the programmes no
if you have serial numbers for programmes you can often get a down load from the writers site , run it and enter your serial number
Giveawayoftheday is just that , the serial numbers are for that date only and have expired nowSave a Rachael

Thanks for that. So my next question is, is there a program that will give me the serial numbers?0

If you have registered on the 'giveaway' site, and still have your password, etc., you can just logon with your details on your new PC, after googling this:
 https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/about/
Any programmes from the old PC should be available this way, your account will stay the same. You need to tell us :
*What Operating System is on your old PC - Windows 7, or other?
 * What O/S you are likely to have on the next PC?
 * Is there any data (files/folders/documents etc) that you want to transfer?
As has been said, programmes have to be installed again, if you have an account from the old PC, for a programme you install on the new PC, that makes it easier. Do you have a printer, or other device that connects to your PC? If upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10, for example, some older devices and programmes, may not work.
It can be made easier to transfer stuff, if (a) both O/S are the same and (b) you can either remove the old Hard drive and install it into the new PC alongside the new Hdd, or (c) install the old Hdd in an external case and connect to the new PC. I can advise you furter when I know answers to the above questions.I think this job really needs
 a much bigger hammer.
