Did anyone watch Spotlight last night?

She said this, he said no this will happen, no that will not happen, oh yes it will.

I did agree that really at the heart this is an English Nationalist thing, they do not give a monkeys about NI. All you read in the UK papers is England this England that, Great Britain Great Britain! The thing is we are not Great Britain never have been, its Great Britain and Northern Ireland. We are part of the UK, but they are all England and Great Britain.

I did agree with the Sinn Fein guy Villiers is a moron.

They have to top us up by £10 billion every year. Of course they don't care. Do you honestly think your average English person ever cared about N.I.?

I remember visiting some Uni friend in Manchester a number of years ago. The majority thought you needed a passport to get to Belfast. Actually I take it back, it's not that the average English person doesn't care, it's just we're not even on their radar.

They don't have to, they can stop anytime they like. Maybe some day they will, and we'll find out pretty quickly who really, really wants to live here.

Yes, folks, these people have a vote and they've just used it. Reminds me of Churchill's line about democracy being the worst possible form of government, apart from all the others.

The regulations argument is a total red herring or should that be a bendy banana. If we want to continue to export to the EU we will still have to meet their regulations. In fact if customs are brought back we will have to deal with all the paperwork that that will entail. So there will be more red tape rather than less.

The rest of the countries in the EU complain about the bendy banana thing just as much as people in the UK do. They treat it as a joke like the way we complain about the trains being late because of the wrong type of snow on the tracks. It is not something that they would want to change their whole constitution over.

According to the daily tel this morning , New Zealand has made an unsolicited offer of its skilled and experienced trade deal negotiating team to Britain.
That'll be a nice sweetheart deal for nz in return. Say hello to nz farm products and goodbye to ni lamb.

Do you know that for a fact or are you just assuming?

Well, I'd say they're unlikely to offer that service just because they're nice, wouldn't you?

Gosh the thread sentiment is a lot less bullish than 2 weeks ago. I think a lot of people, both NI and beyond, are really starting to think about what this all means.

Our business has put on hold 30-50k of website and infrastructure upgrading (which was all tendered within NI) because we concluded that we want that as a buffer in case of problems. Siemens have made clear that their investments in the UK are in a holding pattern and may be limited depending on what happens. There are numerous other stories of business putting investment on hold. It may be pushed in later but a short term hold by the majority of business will be dire for the economy. Maybe in with years we have a great deal but not every business has reserves to last 2 years on mediocre or poor trade.

As a scientist turned entrepreneur/director/manufacturer, I had big concerns which were ignored by many. It is scary how many of those are asking me what will happen and what it means. I'm just telling them that they better work hard, make sure they are not the guy who is 'least essential' and don't make any big decisions without a good contingency plan!
    Always overestimating...

Depends who you talk to. I've just met someone who's delighted at the prospect of customs control coming back. He lives somewhat further south of here in a rural district. I suspect certain business opportunities may arise.

I suppose if you live in Swindon you don't really think of these things.
