I don't know what the result of this petition will be, if the votes are all genuine and they keep going at the same pace (1 million a day) the powers that be will have to take notice of why this petition is attracting all these signatures, I suspect 'voters remorse' may be part of the driving factor. http://indy100.independent.co.uk/article/leave-voter-regrets-voting-leave-when-he-realises-it-means-were-now-leaving--Z1btq_FnVW

Will the petition have fizzled out in two weeks or will it have reached 17m signatures?
That's the peoples choice and time will tell, if it was another scenario, the Brexit voters would be publicising this petition for sure as one of their own persuasion started it in the first place :)

The powers that be will have to take notice of the majority decision of the referendum. Nothing more.

Um, no. They don't have to take notice... That wasn't written into the law. Likely to? Maybe.
I've seen it alleged that Dave's resignation was a ploy to push blame onto Boris/Gove. Let them push the button (which they suddenly seem reluctant to do).

And a Labour MP is already calling on parliament to assert that the results are not binding and will not be acted on.

There you go. That's politics for you. The only thing certain, once the referendum was called, was that it wouldn't finish with the result, no matter which way it went...

And is Spain going to close its borders to british holiday makers?

    I suspect not.

    Nor any other EU country.

No probably only to Gibraltar (with EU backing this time)...

You may be correct, a cracking idea to have the petition though

Of course they do. It would be political suicide for them not to. The majority of England voted to leave. Some constituencies with a far larger majority than 52%.

David Lammy can say whatever he wants but to think that a labour MP could show such disdain for democracy is frankly disgusting.

Good luck to the other MPs saying similar in the (majority) of constituencies with a majority leave vote.

"The House of Commons petitions committee has said it is investigating allegations of fraud in connection with a petition calling for a second EU referendum."

    No surprise there,

maybe we could re-run the `66 World Cup final as well - that should please the Germans

Seriously I'd love to know what people think the result of the petition will be. Do you seriously think this is going to overturn the result of a democratic referendum with 72% turnout? The majority have spoken. It's over, move on.
My apologies for the offensive language in this article from the Indy, it sums up this thread well including Irish passports and the Petitiion :)

This is good news, if fraud has taken place it should be dealt with, it's a great pity some of the referendum claims/promises don't fall into a similar catergory

This type of thing was predictable and very bad news for our tolerant society, one of many such reports since Friday :(
