Maybe I've been lucky, but any punctures I've had so far I've been able to fix myself. And such fixes have been permanent for the usable life of the tyre.

I had the same in my Mitsubishi Colt.

The 2 punctures I had happened in the dark and rain with just me and my daughter in the car. I felt much happier with the compressor/foam kit than I would have changing a wheel at the roadside.

I now have a kit in my focus even though it has a spare.

The kit I linked is not a foam kit ... it is basically a type of tar string. :)
