Rumour of bungalow being underpinned

It's my first post so please be gentle lol
I need some advice and didn't know whether someone could help?
We're in the process of buying a bungalow. We visited the property this weekend and our seller told us that she had a slight issue with a neighbour. The neighbour wanted to buy the property but couldn't afford it, hes displeased that it has sold. He told my seller that the bungalow was underpinned prior to her buying back 2005.
My seller knew nothing of the underpinning and her searches back in 2005 didn't show up anything.
I really want the property and we've gone with a Homebuyers survey but now we're thinking should we have a structural survey too? The only hint that something is up is that the brickwork was repointed but that's it.
Will the searches show up underpinning or will the homebuyers survey pick it up?
I don't want to waste money on a structural survey based on a nasty rumour.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I'd actually be more concerned about buying a bungalow with an unpleasant and possibly resentful neighbour next door.
Call me Mrs Cynical, but if the neighbour wanted the bungalow enough to try and put a spanner in the works of your sale, it's possible that you could have an ongoing problem with him.A cunning plan, Baldrick? Why not contact Building Control and check there was a completion certificate issued.

Screw the underpinning. The bitter neighbour would be the problem.
You really want to live next to someone like that? I wouldn't.0 -
I would do my own research at building control and run an insurance quote test on the property too.
Then, assuming all was well, I'd go to see the neighbour to establish the 'truth' as they see it. That would give me much-needed info first hand on what the real problem is.
After that, I'd know whether I should proceed.0 -
Find out the actual facts - and ignore the neighbour.
I'd be inclined to think that the property cant be that bad personally - as the neighbour would, presumably, not have wanted to buy it if it was.
Errrr...but then...do bear in mind that its astonishing just how short-sighted and "not exactly bright" some people can be and weigh up whether the neighbour looks to be an intelligent/logical/etc sort of person (as many people arent :huh::huh:).0 -
Just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to reply.
We spoke to the Homebuyer Surveyor who confirmed there was no obvious issues and don't bother getting a structural survey.
The surveyors was at the property for nearly an hour and I feel confident0
