My dad became uncool when I reached my teens. Dad would answer the phone and say "Hello, God speaking...." and chuckle at his own joke. After the twentieth time it was no longer funny.
He once answered the phone to a boyfriend and said "Battersea Dogs Home" and the boyfriend got all flustered as he thought he had the wrong number.
Looking back I can see that my dad was a funny guy, I wish I had appreciated him at the time.

I remember about 15 years ago walking into Tesco with a 13/14 year old grandson and suddenly he went into 5th gear and was walking at one hell of a speed to get in front of me, I was wondering what the hell he was doing when i heard 3 little girlie voices coming towards us and squeeaking, 'Hi Jamie, giggle giggle' nana was the last person he wanted to be seen with x
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

When they have the audacity to start work in your school. And your friends think she's cool, for a teacher.

DS used to walk a long way around in order to avoid passing my room.

    LOVE THIS THREAD !!
i delight in embarassing my child and see it as payback for the pain of labour!! no, not really but i was informed the other day that it's "not cool to say cool" so then i said it all day on purpose...
if she had rolled her eyes any more i think they'd have fallen out of her head !!:rotfl:
i also like to sing and/or dance a bit in the shops if there is music on......

Me too, it's one of the perks of being the parent to a teenager.
I also think it's helpful to sometimes puncture the self importance that teenagers can suffer from.

Haha, I can so see myself being embarrassing to my kids. I try it now, but they're too young to see me as not being funny.

Like the dancing at the school disco, that was fun!

I guess also when I started high school. I forgot when but all I remember was them being so old school and I don't understand some of their rules. I envied my classmates that time for having cool parents.

My dad was as uncool as it was possible to get from day one.

My mother has always been plain weird.

Strangely my childrens friends think I am cool.. I let them vacuum and stuff.. and make cake..

I go out of my way to embarrass my offspring.. ;)

I was definitely aware of my parents being quite uncool when I was at primary school, Dad especially. I can still remember he made me carry a man's briefcase to school aged ten because he said school bags wore out too quickly. I can't tell you how embarrassing it was... At that age all you want to do is fit in, being the class geek, first to get braces, wearing national health glasses and carrying a briefcase did not help. It's a wonder I didn't get more bullied than I did really.
  • Offspring #2 decided it pretty much on the second day of Nursery Class, aged just 3.

She couldn't get into that place fast enough - and never wanted to leave.

Ratbag; she couldn't even bring herself to look a bit pleased to see me once (other than the Friday when I'd been shopping for heavy stuff, so had her old buggy with me - she blagged a lift back whilst I carried the potatoes).
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

oh bless you!! I had nhs specs too...and i was chubby!! Also moved schools 3 times in 2 years so my confidence was really low. My parents insisted i wore big clumpy black shoes that 'would last' but i think the briefcase is awful.. I always let my daughter have bags and stuff she wants within reason but make her save up or use birthday/xmas money if it's pricey so she values it:)
It's cruel to make them stand out too much when they want to fit in!!
