Virgin Mobile cold calls

Okay, so they all do it. And because they all do it, the scammers know this and get to make a nice profit.
You get a cold call from "0800 408 9340" just when you least need a cold call or are worrying that you aren't on the best mobile deal.
Voice says it's Virgin Mobile and they want you to have the best deal and not to worry because they are recording the call. (So reassuring to hear this as scammers wouldn't dream of pretending cynically to record their calls - try asking for their recording!)
Caller immediately mentions security and asks for three digits from YOUR security number! Wants you to prove you are you after they've rung you on your phone number. No mention of them proving to you who they are. Caller ID? Scammers apparently can fake the numbers that show up on caller ID. Shockingly bad form.
So you tell the caller to **gg!! off with two gees. Do they stop? It's Virgin. They carry on calling unless you call them and say you don't want cold calls. Who chooses cold calls by default?
No wonder unwary folk get scammed when 'big' companies use these methods. Wonder if they actually get anyone to change their existing mobile deal?
At least they recorded me telling them to **gg!! off. Thinking maybe I'm paying them too much as it happens...
Just found Avast call blocker on my mobile. Tee hee.:p
