Sky and humax in one household with one dish?

Options
Hi we have been paying £55 per month for sky+ With multi room. my husband and I want to stop with sky as we only really use it for the record/live pause facility and we want to save the money. We have a smart tv with built in freeview which is enough for us nowadays but we do still use the record facility. My daughter has the extra sky box in her room and wants to keep hers.

Got no idea about these kind of things but looking on this forum I'm guessing that one of the Humax boxes would be the best solution for us??? Please can someone tell us if we can just plug it in and it will work through our sky dish even if daughter is still connected to sky with same dish???

Also the total sky subscription is in my name and daughter pays the extra for hers directly to me. If I cancel the whole package would she qualify for the new sky customer deals herself if she took out contract in her name (she hasn't had a sky account herself for four years and that was before she moved in with us). We are well out of the first year contract by the way. TIA

If you get a Freesat Humax,it will need to be used with the Sky dish, but if you want to watch Freeview (programmes offered do differ) then you will need a Freeview Humax and have an aerial available.

If you take Freeview, your daughter could use the Sky dish, but it's doubtful that she would count as a new customer,as the household, rather than the person who is named on the account, is considered to be the customer.

A Freesat box will directly replace a Sky box - same cables, same dish, pointing in the same direction. You can replace the Sky box in the living room with a Freesat box no problem.
In terms of the subscription, you can at least cancel your multiroom subscription, and move your Sky box to your daughter's room (I assume yours is better/a recorder and hers isn't). If you don't want to move boxes, put your card into her box. That'll save ~£10 per month on multiroom at least.

If you cancel a Multi-Room subscription with Sky, then the original Sky decoder will still receive all the free-to-air channels.

So no need to purchase a Humax box, unless you want PVR recording features which a cancelled Sky receiver will no longer perform.

The OP does mention using the recording facility, so would need a PVR.

End of financial year is at end of June so rules about new accounts are "out the window" for the next few weeks, probably. Your daughter will likely get a new customer deal for joining and may even get a deal for the additional room if you would keep your service. This will have a 12 month minimum term. Alternatively she could simply rejoin on her old account for a very similar deal. This MAY not have a 12 month minimum term if they allow her to do it.
