Ppi uncertainty. Help n guidance please

I have been plagued by ppi chasers for some 2 or 3 years.
I have done some research and was sure I never had ppi. Recently one PPI Chaser said specifically that I was owed money by MBNA.
This was repeated in the couple of subsequent phone calls and I started to take notice I found an account I open for 3 months and closed but knew I had had an older one some 10 years or more.
I phoned MBNA and despite having no account numbers they initially drew a blank but after a further found 2 more accounts. Only one of them had PPI attached to it and that account ran from 9 years from 1995. The guy on the phone started an immediate enquiry. I have yet to hear the results. I'll be looking out for the bank re paying what I consider to be the full amount as I believe some Banks maybe holding back.
I welcome any comments and experiences shared on reclaiming from old accounts like this.
I previously thought you wouldn't get anything older than 10 years!
Above all it bugs me that these ppi chasers seem to have access to list of accounts which I can't search as an account holder my self.
Does anyone know if there are lists like this would be accessible by the Layman?
Best part will be telling those cold callers that I don't need their services and if I did want to use a company I will find one online!0 -

Which is either a confession that they hold your data unlawfully or they were telling you BS.I previously thought you wouldn't get anything older than 10 years!
You can go back to the 80s is some cases. It all comes down to record keeping. Different firms have different timescales for destroying data.Above all it bugs me that these ppi chasers seem to have access to list of accounts which I can't search as an account holder my self.
They dont.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I received my offer letter today. No mention directly re:offsetting but a general paragraph stating that refund will be made 'subject to clearance of any arrears you may have with the group'
I guess I will now have to wait and see what happens, not sure if it will be offset, paid directly in to my current account or a cheque sent in the post. Time will tell 😁🙏0 -

Thanks for those interesting comments...

”They dont"
So what databases do the ppi chasers use to match my phone number with the apparent knowledge that I am worth hounding?
It's a bit like the other chasers who phone people who have just made an accident insurance claim.0 -

I guess it could mean that they plan to offset against old credit card debt even though it is statute barred now but this offer letter is obviously a standard letter that is sent out. To be honest, I don't mind either way but it would be helpful if it was made clear that their intentions are.
It is a waiting game now, time will tell 🙏0 -
statute barring does not apply to PPI redress. They can offset the capital part of the redress against any debt written off previously whether it is statute barred or not.
Normally, the complaints team deal with the complaint and decide the outcome. They then pass it to the payments team who calculate what to pay, if you have been bankrupt or defaulted or claimed on the policy.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thank you for the information - When you say the capital part what do you meAn?
Does this mean they cannot offset the interest part of the refund?
Ok, so the complaints team deal with and create your offer and then payment team will decide what I will receive, whether they offset etc.
Do I just wait to see if I receive any money in my account or a cheque or should I call to enquire but I don't wish to draw attention to it either? 😬🙏🏻0 -
Just wait for your letter, they won't tell you anything over the 'phone.i0
