sound bar in the way of TV remote receiver

The problem is that the sound bar sits in front of the TV and physically blocks the remote signal from reaching the TV.

I think what I need is an IR repeater, but all the ones I see are for multiple devices and appear to be for controlling set top boxes hidden in cupboards.

Can someone offer some guidance on what I need to buy please. Also what plugs in where.

Are you implying that they may not work with a TV?
I don't see any reason for any of these not to work:

Personally I would try using one or two small pieces of foil working as a mirror(s):

Can you put the TV on a small unobtrusive book or something similar to raise it up above the sound bar very slightly?
I too have a sound bar in front of my TV but it does not interfere with the remote beam.

You could just put something under the TV or move the sound bar to a lower position. If you really want to be clever you could use a small mirror (or a decorative polished steel ball place next to the TV) to deflect the IR.

IMO your overcomplicating the whole thing and believe you me, i'm an electronics engineer, I have upwards of 5 different projects on the go at any one time and 20 more new ones in mind, I would not waste my time on this.

The first thing to try is putting a new battery (or batteries) in the remote control.

I can now point my remote in any direction and it does what it is supposed to do.

    Thanks for the quick responses.

TV and sound bar are new, so it isn't a battery problem. It is a known Sony problem.

TV is on a sleek black 2 shelf stand, so nowhere to lower the sound bar to.

Maybe I am over complicating things.

We put our sound bar behind the TV - is that against the 'acoustic rules'? ;)

I would suggest that that article isn't describing 'a known Sony problem'.

It appears to be describing a relatively common problem that can occur with any soundbar/television combination, no matter what the make.

I have the same problm with an LG TV & Panasonic soundbar. I bought some felt pads to put under the tv's own stand (doubled up) to lift the tv up 1/2 an inch which has helped
