Holiday ILLNESS - Compensation
Comments

Yes; no company budgets to deliberately make a loss.
A sum to cover compo claims will go into the cost budget, which drives the prices charged.
If the annual compo bill goes up this will be reflected in next year's prices.
Indeed, but the next company along that has more stringent hygene standards won't have to pay out as much compo. With a better reputation and lower costs, they can attract business from the original hotel, forcing it to adopt a different strategy (such as improving hygine). They joys of a competetive marketplace.0 -

Nice theory.
Problem is, especially at something like an AI in Egypt, the great travelling public all want a nice deal and seek out the lowest price they can.
The larger Operators like Thomson and Thomas Cook have over the years spent a lot of money on Health & Safety initiatives working with hoteliers in Egypt to improve hygiene standards. Whilst they can never protect holidaymakers 100% I think great in roads have been made.
We have been on three AI holidays to Egypt and I do wonder if many of the problems come from other holidaymakers.
We always used hand sanitizer stations before entering the dining areas and also hand gels again before eating, but didn't see anyone else doing so. We have witnessed people handling food but not taking it, people putting food on plates then putting it back on the buffet display and sneezing near the food. Seems personal hygiene levels of other nationalities not quite the same as the British and other Western European nations.
Also however seen plenty of British guests eating to excess, drinking to excess, jumping in the pool straight after lunch, laying in the blazing hot sun for hours on end - then moaning later about having upset tummies which they put down to the hotel food.0 -
Westin, I think you have hit the nail on the head there, but you forgot the people who don't wash their hands after using the toilet......0

And those who...
- Eat off their plate while they move along the servery.
- Eat off their plate between the servery and finding their table.
- Going for seconds and using the same plate.
- Using the same serving fork for different foods, and leaving the fork with the wrong food.
- Squeezing bread rolls and not taking them, ditto with fruit.
- Piling their plate and leaving most of it.
AI self-service buffets really do bring out the worst in people.0 -
And some of us don't do anyone those things and still get ill. Luke warm food, as frequently served in Egyptian AI buffets, is a breeding ground for bacteria.
Still doesn't necessarily justify a compensation claim though.0 -
No you may not do them, but you suffer because other people do.....0
