Powerline internet adapter - TV

Can anyone advise on the following please.

Just bought a new TV for a bedroom(a Panasonic 700 series 4k - Smart) Because the internet Wi-Fi signal is not strong in that room I bought a BT Wi-Fi Home Hotspot 600(ie a powerline adapter) It works perfectly with a huge Wi-fi signal in the room(I am on BT Infinity2 getting about 50Mbps) and the TV works perfectly for all the Apps.(including BBC Player)

As both the TV and powerline adapter can be connected by Ethernet cable, I decided to use that connection. Again all apps worked well EXCEPT BBC Player. On opening Player it displays ‘BT - your home hub network is now set up, go to the next page to learn how to select and use all the Apps’. Underneath this is a blue box with Get started’.

There the good news ends! I cannot move from that screen – pressing every button yields no result. I can’t even delete the screen. So have to revert to Wi-Fi.

I assume that the answer lies somewhere in the network and sharing centre on my desktop PC – but where?

Rang the dedicated BT helpline and was told it is probably the TV at fault, or I should return the powerline adapter and try a new one!

Any ideas please?

Bingo! Carried out the procedure and it worked exactly as you stated. Thanks very much.

If I had listened to the BT technical line 'expert' I would be returning the TV set and/or the powerline adapter.

May I please resurrect this thread.

As I posted earlier that advice solved the problem.(I was using Win7)

However I have just installed Win10 and I have the original problem i.e. it connects wirelessly but not via the Ethernet cable. The ‘Smart Setup’ on the hub is still off(it doesn’t work with it on either)

On the Win10 Start menu there are many settings for ‘internet’. I have tried altering some of there but it makes no difference(Any alterations are put back to the original setting)

Can anyone please advise how I can connect the TV via the Ethernet cable with Win10?

You've updated what to Win 10? Your PC?
What has the OS of your PC got to do with the network connection of the TV?

I have updated my PC to Win10.

Please read earlier posts - especially that by 'boundy' in post#2.

It was the initial settings of the Home Hub that caused the problem using Win7; this was corrected using the link provided in Post#2.

The only change has been the upgrade to Win10, so it is reasonable IMO to assume that the problem re-occurring is due to that change in OS; presumably do with Home Network settings.

That's what's confusing me ... how can the PC operating system have any influence whatsoever on a completely separate physical connection between the TV and the powerline adapter?

Can you clearly describe your network setup please?

TV connects to what, and how?
PC connects to what, and how?

(I'm assuming the powerline adapter provides both a physical connection - Ethernet - and a WiFi connection option).

The Powerline adapter has the facility to provide Wi-Fi and Ethernet connection to any device.

With Win7 I could connect the TV wirelessly or by Ethernet - the latter(Ethernet) connection only after I used the Hub manager facility on my BT Hub5 to switch off 'smart manager' see the link in Post#2. The BT Hub 5 is connected to my desktop PC by Ethernet. Both PC and Hub5 are in another room.

With Win10 the original symptoms have returned and I can only connect the TV wirelessly.
how can the PC operating system have any influence whatsoever on a completely separate physical connection between the TV and the powerline adapter?

It is because the BT Hub5 wants to manage the network which the TV has joined(not by choice) it tried to do this on Win7 and turning off 'smart manager' solved the problem.

With Win10 'smart set-up' has no effect.

But Smart Manager is on the HH5, not on your PC. The fact you access the HH5 configuration page via the web browser on your PC is irrelevant.

You might need to reset the HH5 and then turn off Smart Manager again.

Obviously 'Smart set-up' is on the HH5 and equally obviously the PC was only used to access HH5 in order to switch off smart set-up.
as detailed in the BT instruction.

So what are you saying is irrelevant?

The problem is simple! - the TV won't connect now to the internet using an Ethernet cable. This despite the TV instructions(including the TV on-screen display) showing how to connect to the internet using an Ethernet cable.

I have posted to see if someone has the solution to my 'simple problem.'!
