Has anyone claimed on their car hire excess insurance?

Hi,
I’m travelling for the next few months and I’ll be hiring cars in France, Australia, Spain and the US.
I’ve never used car hire excess insurance before, (I either paid the extra at the desk or just took the risk), but it seems worth it with all the hiring I’ll be doing.
I’ve looked on the moneymaxim comparison site, and the insurance seems cheap - £45-50 for annual cover.
However I don’t recognise any of the insurers, and the feedback/reviews seem to be horrific. Lots of complaints that claim attempts are just ignored.
I’m seeing a list including Questor, Chew, CarHireExcess, Insurance4Carhire. None of the ‘big names’.
Does anyone have a personal recommendation?

Ive never claimed.
But the policy document states a required claims process to follow.
I'd suggest being fully aware of that from the outset, retaining a printout in a convenient place, and following each step in the case of a claim to minimise the risk of difficulties.
Insurance reviews rarely tell you the smooth and successful claims, which will almost certainly be significant in number.0 -
The Guardian seem to promote Insurance4carhire through Holiday Autos + there is some decent advice on this link

Insurance4carhire have been going for a while. On the basis that I had a no quibble claim with them many years ago, I would recommend them.0

I had a successful claim through CarHireExcess.co.uk after scraping the body coloured bumper and front spoiler on a brand new Mercedes A Class (oops!). Process was relatively painless.0
