Grey is quite fashionable,at the moment. There are many photos, in newspapers and magazines,of young people who have dyed their hair grey.

In between seeing my hairdresser every 4-5 weeks, I use one of the root powders and find them very good. I originally bought the wow colour from QVC, but then discovered the W7 version on eBay which has the same colour range and is just as good. They take the edge off the white and if you keep it off your scalp and put a little hairspray in afterwards it lasts all day.
I have also tried the root sprays by Josh Wood (hated it and quite expensive )and the new L'oreal one, and whilst the L'oreal one is really effective and I would use it for a special occasion, it makes your hair feel a little greasy by the end of the day, and as I wash every other day I prefer the powder to the sprays.

I have found the light brown to look most natural on my medium brown hair- they seem to come up quite dark.

    I feel your pain!

One tip I discovered is to use a brunette dry shampoo to give me an extra week or two between dying it. Similar to the above posters suggestion of root powders, but a fraction of the price.

I use the Superdrug one. It's £1.99 a can, usually on offer BOGOF or half price.

    Cheap but effective.

Lots of us in the same boat:j

When I was young I had dark brown hair and used to henna it, it looked amazing. Unfortunately you can't really use henna on grey hair. I started getting highlights a few years ago, the local college is cheap but slow.

I'm not sure I can be bothered now, I will grow greyer gracefully and spend the money on decent haircuts and amazing nail stuff (sorry if that is a non sequitur:p) instead

I'v stopped dying my hair medium brown, which on me looked very dark. I had got to the stage where I could see the roots every 2 weeks and just couldn't be bothered with the upkeep.
I went to a local hairdresser and she gave me a shorter layered bob and put lots of caramel highlights in. It totally lightened the whole colour, and now I've got about an inch of grey root which isn't bothering me too much.
I will go back for another cut and maybe some more highlights along the parting but hopefully gradually go grey.
If I don't like it I can always dye it again. I have tried twice before and when I got to the all grey stage hated it!! My hair was much shorter then and it was a much quicker process.
  • I have embraced the silver! I use Pantene for silver hair and love it. I get lots of compliments. I do find I have to use a bit more make up otherwise I look very washed out.

I am late to the party, but I so desperately want to gracefully embrace the grey!

But... I have an important and longed for wedding to attend in October, and not enough time to grow the grey out!

Once the wedding is over, I intend to grow the colour out and keep my hair quite short, and hopefully by next Summer I will be using Silver Shampoo!

It's the only way, as it is really becoming a pain getting the colour in now, not to mind the flippin cost!

Anyway, will try it, and as a mid brown hair colour woman, if I don't like the grey, I'll go blonde!

Hair dye unfortunately isn't nice stuff. It clearly damages hair, and can be irritating to your scalp. Interestingly, since my mother stopped dying her hair a while back it grew out all white for a while, then suddenly about half the re-growth was black again! Seems hair dye to cover a few greys might give you more and more to cover, so people who dye may not be actually as grey as they think they are.

I have a fair scattering of grey at 31, enough to see at a distance, and found my first ones at about 19. I'm ok with my grey hairs, I just have fun and cut my hair in interesting ways. I make more effort to have interesting haircuts, to make a point I suppose, that I could dye it, but I've decided not to. Seeing someone with well cut and styled hair makes a point, dyed or not, which is that you like your hair and are doing what you want with it. Letting the grey stay isn't giving up or resigning yourself to dull hair. I've sometimes had a half grey, half black mohawk over the years, I like the pattern the different colours make.

I used to have highlights and lowlights, but got fed up as it takes so long.

I do trust my hairdresser and she chooses a light brown for me. It's okay, but I really miss my dark brown hair.

I wish someone would invent a dark colour that works.

If you want to disguise the roots get some Colour Wow. Lots of videos on youtube but it is a powder that you apply.
