Go away grey!!

I'm looking for some advice/tips please and hopefully from someone who is in the same position as me.
I started going grey late teens/early twenties and easily covered up my dark brown hair with hair dyes. I am 36 now and when I dye my hair I get about a week before my scalp has silvery regrowth all over. I cant colour my hair every two weeks and I cannot disguise the grey any more! My current situation is about two weeks after dyeing I will use a root retouch and then try and get another three weeks out of that before I dye all over again.
As a result of all this treatment my hair is so frazzled and dry and frizzy and am at the end of my tether with it!
Anyone have any advice or tips as this is really getting me down and I am not ready to go grey yet.

Look at it this way, people may think you have flashlights put in.
You need to deep condition more to stop the damage to your hair. Grey is a fact of life and ageing unfortunately.0 -
I have given up the battle
Take the plunge and visit a hair colourist and go lighter
Then have highlights, the grey becomes a lot less noticeable during regrowth
I done this for two years and slowly allowed the grey to come through
The last bits of dye are nearly grown out now, two more cuts will see it gone. For special occasions I get the ends toned into the grey
It really is so liberating getting rid of the dye bottles
My first grey hairs came through when I was 7 and I started having to dye it early teens0 -
I gave up the dye last autumn. Best thing ever. I had platinum highlights put through professionally. I have had it done twice more since then plus getting it cut every six weeks.
It looks great and I actually look younger. BUT I am considerably older than the OP. I started going grey before I was 30 so I spent years fighting the grey. I feel your pain OP!0 -
Yep it would be so liberating to give up the dyeing but I am just not ready to grey yet! Interested in going lighter but I fear it wouldn't suit me or make look washed out. I did hear that if you were going lighter you could also have a treatment called olaplex which protects your hair and repairs bonds. Anyone have this done?0

I am not grey! Think platinum blonde with silver highlights. A fox:rotfl:0

Olapplex is really good I get it done when I colour my hair.
A good hairdresser will discuss your options for colours, light doesn't have to be draining if its the right shade.0 -

I'm in a similar situation - I've been growing out the hair colour for the last 5 months and I reckon I've got about the same length of time to go (shoulder length hair). I tell people I'm getting in touch with my inner crone.:)0 -
Luckily, I wear my hair in a short pixie type cut. Plus it grows really fast. Only took three/four months to grow all the dye out.
The rapid hair growth was a minus when I was colouring. I could see my white roots in barely a week. It was like being on a treadmill of continually battling the regrowth.
I have never had a problem with condition though. My hair is thick and healthy. I never had an issue with colour build-up as I had it cut and coloured every five weeks.0 -
I feel your pain. I colour regularly as well. You have to condition constantly. I buy conditioner on Ebay that is intended for salons as it seems more effective (and much more expensive) than high street brands and I also use olive oil. I have recently discovered temporary colour touch up sprays. These have allowed me to increase the time between colours a wee bit. Nourishing conditioner, oil treatments and regular trims are the way to go. Good luck.Make £10 per day in May challenge: £310/123.920

I'd advise going lighter! Even just a balayage might help blend the white/grey hairs in with your colour and you'll probably need less touch-ups. Also, definitely ask your hairdresser about olaplex and make sure to deep condition at least once a week! Coconut oil is really good for that. I used to dye my hair a lot when I was younger, never conditioned properly- I had to cut it all off to get rid of all the split ends and horrible dry bits0
