microsoft edge blue screen

I closed my laptop this a.m and it was working fine.
now trying to turn it on and all I get is a blue screen with Microsoft edge written on it.
the browser doesn't come on screen.


however, I seem to have acquired from somewhere unknown to me another i.e. icon with a yellow line going through it.


all my browsing history my favourites list , bookmarks etc have vanished.


please help

now when I click on blue i.e. icon , nothing is happening, no screen is coming up.

When you turn it on, does it go through the POST (Power On Self Test) and do you hear any bleeps? If NO to the above does it go straight to the blue screen or does it try to load your operating system (OS). It would help if you told us the type of laptop and the OS.

when I turn it on it goes to desktop,
screensavers have gone as well
when I click on Microsoft edge tile , I just get the blue screen
I right clicked to 'share' and got the following error message.


The error code is 0X00000005, in case you need it.

Does anything else work? If you don't click on Edge, can you start other programmes or software? How do you know screensavers have gone as they wouldn't kick in until it had been idle for a while.

none of the scenery pictures come onto screen when I turn it on, as they did before.
I can access internet via another icon that seems to have appeared from somewhere,











the plain dark blue is the Microsoft edge one that was working first.




the one with the yellow line going through it is the one that is now working and seems to have appeared.

i have read through link you have posted. seems to work for some and not for others.
is it best just to leave things as they are, as i can access internet, and i don't want to make things worse, as i am not a computer expert.


its just that i thought my laptop might have got hacked or something as i have not downloaded or made any changes, and that i have lost bookmarks and history which i refer to regularly for ease of use.


or is it best that i run the scan to be on the safe side?

I am having problems with my downloads now , as when I try to download , I get following message


a box saying - wait operation timed out-


i think i will try system restore to try and get back to time before this problem sorted.

i cannot find system restore on this laptop , so i did Lenovo system check,
all came thru with green tick except for last one - local connection test- which has yellow warning sign, however , when i click on this for info , nothing happens
