  • Well, the company is cracking down on it now; there's no advice to offer a refusenik other than a plate of humble pie and a bic.

Some religions men are required to wear beards. If the manager had not got the backing from his superiors he is on a looser. Any further meetings with this manager he needs to insist a union rep being there.

State his religious beliefs require him to have facial hair.
There is no definition of what religion you have to follow, the God of the U bend under the kitchen sink is as valid as any other God

  • You sure? I'm pretty sure there are a number of recognised faiths and you can t just make one up.

I can't see the manager complaining about one persons beard and not the other. OPs partner may just have a bushier/longer beard.

Also, as stated in the OP, beard nets are a requirement. Regardless of whether it was enforced or not previously, he is being told to wear it now, it's law so just do it.

It seems that the problem is that he doesn't actually have a beard but stubble, as you say staff need to be clean shaven or have a beard. Maybe clarification is needed.

That's good in theory but surely you can't be clean shaven one day and have a full beard the next:D. There is an "interim stubble phase"

You can also be clean-shaven at the start of the shift, and have a tremendous amount of stubble by the end!

    In what way?

He would be able to keep his beard.

    100% agree with this.

Its a real shame this thread is going to be derailed by someone's ego when the OP has asked for help.

All I'm doing is offering advice. Options. Three posters here have attacked my advice rather than concentrate on the OP's issues.

I know it is awful, but I can't see why he is standing up against them over a beard.

Unless he has some scarring or something that he is trying to cover up?

Why not simply shave it off and give them one less excuse?

And yes, if my job was at risk over something like that then I would shave it.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
