Did I do something wrong?

contrivant, you did nothing wrong, welcome to a small crowded country which has some of the most thoughtless/impatient/insane/incompetent drivers in the world!
Nothing to do with the cars they drive, their gender or age, everything to do with the fact that, inside their metal boxes, some of them feel that the road is theirs alone and they have all the rights there are to ride roughshod over everyone else on the road. Outside the box, most of them become almost human, some even realise their own inadequacies and become humble!
Last year I was driving up a steep hill which had two lanes up, eventually the two lanes filter into one at the very top. I have a fairly poweful motor and can usually get up the hill with ease, but towards the top, a very large, very obese man in an old Astra, decided to overtake on the blind hilltop. I knew that the idiot would probably drive into unseen oncoming traffic if I let him overtake, so I just accelerated, the turbo cut in and I flew away from him. Viewed in my mirror, he was going berserk, shaking his fist and pointing to a layby some distance ahead. I let him overtake and he clearly indicated that we should pull over and have a fight. At the age of 70, and disabled, I did not fancy that, but just nodded and raised my own fist. He speeded up, pulled into the layby and jumped out of the car, waving me to stop. I sailed by him, drove around the next bend and took one of the 4 exits from the roundabout that came up next. Never saw him again. What a muppet!
My advice is to drive with one thought in mind: that every other road user in Britain may be a homicidal maniac.
I am reminded of my sadly deceased mate, almost 50 years in Aussie, who came to see me every year. He would not drive in the UK, said it was too dangerous and only Brits get away with it!I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I've said above that the OP was in the right and the Audi driver was a menace, so no disagreement there. But don't diss your country too readily! While there are some bad drivers around, I would say that British drivers in general are pretty good - competent, fairly law-abiding, and tolerant. Proof of that is in the accident stats, where GB has one of the lowest KSI figures in the world. If you want to see bad driving (aggressive, incompetent, murderously fast, with no apparent concept of road rules or personal survival) I suggest you search Youtube for 'Russian dashcam' or similar. It will open your eyes to what truly bad driving is aboutcontrivant, you did nothing wrong, welcome to a small crowded country which has some of the most thoughtless/impatient/insane/incompetent drivers in the world!

Idiot.
Seen ambulances get blocked by people doing this before. I'm sure they don't mind though because waiting for more than a minute is ridiculous isn't it?!robbies_gal wrote: »loving the idiot responses about pulling out half way
happens to me alot i just love being blocked by ignorance
if you do this in a test you fail unless theres a specific part for you to sit in
anyone does this i give them a long press of my horn
OP u didnt do anything wrong youre in a different car to the audi and hes a knob
Can you give a time limit on how long you'd wait before edging out. 2 minutes, 3, 4 or 5 maybe?
BTW in 43 years of driving I've never seen an ambulance blocked in this manner. You'd hear the siren from a long way away.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

There are a few individuals who when faced with an overwhelmingly irrefutable point of view, do turn to personal attacks in an attempt to derail the topic.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

It's not worth me having an accident over someone trying to push in front of me. He was sitting across the Linden Road lane on that road for a bit before the gap actually came up.
I honestly don't think I was being overcautious though. I drive a little 1 litre car, it doesn't pick up speed quickly, and if I'd taken any of those smaller gaps, the person behind me would have had to put on brakes really hard.
You may be right that he could have gotten out in those gaps I couldn't because my car isn't powerful enough though.
Part of the problem is that a lot of drivers want other people to drive like them. The Audi driver might have been able to get into plenty of the gaps you decided not to take as he has a more powerful car than you.
Doesn't mean you did anything wrong. What will your verse be?
