Can anyone advise me on these as I keep reading loads of threads about them. I recently changed my 02 PAYG from the 200 bolt on package which cost £9.99 (200texts) to the Online where I get 300 texts for £10
I only use my phone for texts so the 300 is great but is there anything else in this package that I should receive free as I read you get 1Gb WAP - what does this mean? As this forum is all about saving money I want to make sure I'm getting VFM from 02 and receiving everything I should. :rotfl:

I think you mean 1Mb. It's like a specially condensed version of web pages, probably mostly text info - train times, cinemas, football scores, etc. I haven't used it either so this is only a provisional answer until others add more.

The 1Mb WAP allowance refers to accessing WAP internet sites using your phone. WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol and is explained on this page.

In the old days, you had to dial-up to use WAP and you were charged for however long you took. A far more efficient way to use WAP is via GPRS, in which you're usually charged for the amount of data you actually download, however long you take to download that data. This means you can read a page, for example, on the BBC News WAP site, and take as long as you like on the page because you're not being charged by the second. Another site that explains GPRS can be found here.

With the O2 Online allowance, it basically lets you download up to 1Mb of data via GPRS on your phone for free. Bear in mind that it only allows you to access WAP sites (this means it's somewhat restricted and won't let you surf the internet as you might do on a computer), and there was a previous Great 'WAP Site' Hunt thread for some useful sites to try.

So, to use GPRS you need:
    1. your O2 online 1Mb GPRS WAP allowance
    2. a phone that has GPRS capabilities
    3. the settings that need to be entered into the phone
    4. some WAP sites to visit! :)

Have you got the 10% reward yet, i should think you did. Its for all O2.
You can also swap the terms about if you want free picture messaging.
If you have any problems dont ring the O2 helpline though, 50p a minute but this is changing at the end of May. Email a question to them.

Are they changing to a 0870 number? If so, I wonder how they can do so many different pretty-much free tariff options and not have it subsidised by a 50ppm c/s.

I detest ringing premium rate numbers and although I mostly emailed o2 with any problems on mine I didn't mind the odd occasion ringing them knowing that they are providing good value tariffs (compared to other networks anyhow).

Not that i'm complaining or anything!?

& make sure you buy your top ups in Boots.

Use (get) Boots Advantage card for 4points/£ spent. & if you get the voucher from the machine in store & buy £20 airtime, you get 150 extra points too.

The O2 Online help line 0870 number has always been in place but they have never publicised it. Suggest you might try 01349 885040,or 887193 instead and save even more wonga!!!!

Thanks. I already knew of these numbers - they're o2 online contract cust services. As this thread was about o2 online PAYG sims and borntoshop mentioned avoiding the 50ppm and emailing instead. I'm assuming he was referring to the o2 Online PAYG cust services changing from end of May.

This tip was on one of the boards a while ago, I took it down but have never had to ring it so not sure if it works!

Apparently if you ring '4444' the top-up credit line and keep pressing 9 over and over again on all the menus then it takes you through to customer care and the call is free.

Don't blame me if it doesn't work but may be worth a try if you ever need to ring customer care :)

WOW - what can I say. Thanks to everyone above who answered me. At least that's explained it better than the 02 guy on the phone did. What a great site. :T
