I've tried adding my Halifax Clarify card. I'm told to call a number for verification. When I call the number I'm asked which card brand I'm using, then for my card number.

I've no doubt it's genuine, but it does seem to fly against the usual advice to keep card details secure.
SMS worked fine for me with Halifax Clarity. Perhaps they didn't have your number on file?

Bit annoyed Amex aren't included yet as they are in the US and that's where I do most spending due to the cashback element.

Just found that my basic bank of scotland \halifax account isn't supported. Spoke to the android/apple pay team who tell me it's not supported for my account type. By basic I mean the accounts for people with poor credit historys

I tried to use this today after installing it on launch. When I installed I was told I need to set up a screen lock to put in a 6 digit number.

Tried to pay for an item today in Wilko and after unlocking the screen, it failed. I had to use my TCB contactless card.

I can't actually see the point in this having used it - what problem is is trying to solve? To use the stored contactless card on Android Pay I actually need to unlock the device with a PIN code anyhow! Seems utterly pointless - my contactless cards are lightweight, require no power and never require charging and I don't need to type in a PIN type unlock code so there is no speed advantage or any advance at all in just using a card instead.

Seems to be a solution looking for a problem!

So how does it work then? Do you scan a picture on your screen which then takes money from your bank?

Eh? It works just like your contactless card.

It comes alive with fingerprint on your phone. Then its easier than a contactless card in your wallet. Phone out of pocket -> fingerprint -> "tap".

My phone doesn't have the ability to read finger prints.

Not really convinced this really is genuinely any easier though..although that would save the PIN entry.

How is phone>fingerprint->cap any easier than get out wallet->remove card->tap? It's different, but easier? The process isn't difficult anyhow with a contactless card...

    I must be missing something!

I have two things in my pocket, a wallet and a phone. Getting a car out of my wallet takes longer than finger on phone and tap. The fingerprint bit doesn't even take time. Its like not having your contactless card in your wallet.

How often do you have to pay for something without having had to queue for at least a few seconds? It's this queuing time when I get my card ready,

Perhaps Android is superior to Apple Pay but when I tried Apple Pay (Santander were giving 3% cashback earlier this year) it took me longer to pay with my phone almost every time. TfL were particularly keen to reject my payment even though I'd prepared my phone and all it needed to do was touch the phone to the reader.

It's handy to have as an emergency payment method but unless I'm bribed by way of cashback I won't be using it as my main payment method.

Finally made a payment today with my Halifax "card" just for the novitly factor. Tried yesterday twice with my FD card and it didn't work at the reader. Tried again today and it didn't work so switch over the virtual cards. I now suspect something was broken with the FD card as it was 3 readers in 3 different shops yet it worked first time with the Halifax card so the phone works.

Like the above I'm beginning to think it is more hassle than just whipping out the physical card but perhaps handy as a backup. No use if it is so unreliable that you have to carry around your wallet anyway!

This article is quite an interesting read and suggests that contactless cards are now just a stopgap solution and once pay by phone is more widely available the cards will disappear.
