Family member sent the wrong TV

I'm always suspicious of topics like these, along with those that involve money being given in error, or not taken on time. It's amazing that people only seem to notice the problem when they spot a potential negative issue for them. I wish people were more honest and just admitted they were hoping they'd get away with it.
Anyway, the company could potentially ask for the TV back and on the basis it was clearly a different TV and you've now set it up and disposed of everything they could ask for the difference in price. The time to contact them was when you first received it.
Normally I would agree with this, but like the poster above says, it was not them who ordered it, simply set it up.
They might not have known which TV the family member ordered in the first place, and the family member might not have noticed a difference as they are not techy. My wife is not techy and could not tell you the difference between different tvs.
If someone asked me to set a tv up for them, I would not think to check if it is the one that has been ordered, I too would set it up and assuming everything worked as it should that would be that.
I do however, not chuck the packaging away, as it comes in useful for any potential house move or if it goes wrong and needs to be sent back, but we have a garage to store things like that in and I appreciate not everyone wants to have empty boxes around.
How was it 'obvious' to the OP that it was the wrong TV, to quote another poster?
Think some of you are being un-neccessarily harsh to the OP here, but I do think they should contact the company to see what they should do. It would look better coming from them than if the company were to contact them. They may even say keep it, or just pay a minimal increase, but at least you know you have done the right thing instead of having it hanging over your head for the next 6 years. Why did you set it up and throw away the packaging? You obviously knew it was the wrong/better TV that was delivered. I've seen Samsung curved UHD boxes and it says Samsung UHD Curved in massive writing over the front of the box. I even just googled Samsung UHD Curved box and it brings up quite a few pictures of what they look like. The is no way to mistake it for a cheap Luxor.
So the title of your thread should be I knew I had been sent the wrong/better TV but set it up and threw away the packaging anyway hoping I could get away with it.
The OP was not the one that ordered it, so it is entirely possible they had no idea, of course this assumes that the OP is truthful and it is a family member and not one of those posts asking for a 'friend'.0

Wow, a lot of conclusions being jumped to and accusations flying around in both this thread and the other.
I had no involvement in the ordering or receiving process.
I had no involvement in the 5 year waranty.
I had no involvement in the payment of the TV.
i had no involvement in the choosing of the TV.
I was simply asked by a family member if i could go to a relatives house and set up their new TV that had arrived.
I went over and did this along with setting up a new Tivo box they got for upstairs.
Once i set it up, the asked if i could take their old TV to the tip as it had screen problems, and they wanted rid of the boxes for the tivo and the TV, so i did so.
Upon looking at the delivery note attached to the tv it simply says "40 in HD, freeview smart TV", with the price and a model number that gives no indication for which model it is for, how on earth am i supposed to know it wasnt the right tv as i never knew what model/brand they had ordered?
The family member is frankly useless with things technical, in fact if i hadnt spotted it, i doubt they would have ever known the difference (not until something went wrong at least), they ordered a 40in smart tv , and thats what they got, so the never seen any problem.
I never realised the problem until i got home and thought it sounded a good deal so looked online (with the idea i might actually get one myself) for the same telly from her catalog online and discovered the mistake.
Is it just me or has this place become more confrontational than it used to be.:(0

Your friend got the wrong tv delivered, they realise this ,to keep the more expensive tv is dishonest, what would they have done if they had received a cheaper model than they ordered?
 Now realistically what to do,
 Keep the TV
 Cancell the extended warranty
Take out an insurance policy for a new warranty( there are plenty of companies who offer these.)
Hope the supplier does not cotton on to their original mistake.0

provided the tv was a 40"smart tv, i doubt they would have noticed if it was a cheaper model either, and if it had have been a cheaper model i probably wouldnt have noticed either, as the only reason i noticed was because i thought it was a good deal and looked at buying one myself, as normally catalogues are expensive, i wouldnt generally buy from them.Your friend got the wrong tv delivered, they realise this ,to keep the more expensive tv is dishonest, what would they have done if they had received a cheaper model than they ordered?

But yes, they will probably cancel the warranty and keep the TV, rather than need tore arrange a re deliver of the correct tv and take time off work, and get the new one set up again.0

I'm just amazed at the amount of dishonesty taking place.
All these suggestions of keeping the TV, cancelling the insurance on the non-delivered TV and then purchasing the insurance elsewhere.
Do the decent, legal and honest thing - Contact Very and advise of them of the situation.0

It's funny how everything gets picked apart on this forum! Say you bought a TV, and someone will accuse you of stealing it. Say you noticed a minor issue after a few days, and you get accused of being aware of the problem all along. And god help you if you think you might be entitled to compensation!!!
Ignore the plebs. In the end it makes no difference whether any of their suspicious are unfounded or not. Neither you nor they can prove who is right, so any debate is pointless. They just come here to waste time and wind people up. God knows what makes them all so bitter!0

Not my decision to make, i have given the family members all the info, and possible outcomes and the decision is now theirs to make.BrentMeister wrote: »I'm just amazed at the amount of dishonesty taking place.

I think it's quote surprising how they didn't even know it was the wrong TV!. This shows they must have done no research and read no reviews before they paid £300 for a TV if they didn't even know what brand they ordered!.
I really don't understand how people put so little effort into researching something they may spend a couple of hours each day watching. Something which also costs £300 which isn't a small sum of money.0

I'll admit my wording was a bit accusatory towards The OP I apologise for that, although I do believe that you only did what was asked of you with no prior knowledge of it being the wrong TV I still believe the relative that you set it up for did or at least should have known.
Being a technophobe doesn't mean you can't read and understand something as simple as a brand name, it would mean they would have little knowledge or interest in the details of the spec.
I know very little about cars, I have no interest in them, I don't drive and the specs mean very little to me but if I ordered a Ford and a Ferrari turned up regardless of what's inside the car I would know it looked different to the pictures I looked at before ordering and I would know that the brand is different.
Looking at pictures of Luxor TVs against Samsung TVs they look different, the bases in particular are completely different designs, the picture on the outside of the very obvious Samsung box would show that it looked different. You relative may not have much choice about the company finding out, they may notice they are down a Samsung TV quite quickly and investigate, I'm sure their wearhouse will have CCTV running and if they link picking and dispatch times to orders they will find out quite quickly where it went.0
