Not my choice, but my family members, also, if not consumer, which forum would you suggest?

to be honest if it is gonna fail it is more likely to fail in the 1st year which will be covered by manufacturers warranty anyway. Also with EU law (if we don't brexit) if it did fail after the year you would probably have a case with the manufacturer that it was not fit for purpose and would be covered for additional years anyway.

I would definitely keep the samsung, its one of the the best brands of TV (if not the best) and it is very unlikely to fail until many years down the line when it will be time to upgrade again anyway.

Not the old "EU 2 year rule" again ... it doesn't exist! In the UK consumer rights are governed by the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (or the Sale of Goods Act 1979 for purchases prior to the CRA coming into force). So whatever the EU rules say are irrelevant for UK consumers.

(Yes, most of the requirements of EU directives are enshrined in UK legislation, but the EU directives themselves do not apply. Even if there is to be a "Brexit"*, UK legislation won't change overnight - if at all).

    * Is it just me that thinks of a disgusting mix of Ready Brek and Wheatabix when they hear/see the term "Brexit"?

It really should be in Consumer Rights section as there are folks in there who answer queries like this regularly. The advice is always (generally) to advise the supplier they have sent the wrong one and ask what they suggest is done to correct their error.

Stand by for post from someone "I ordered a £500 TV and the store delivered a £300 one - what should I do?"

This thread is already duplicated in the Consumer Rights section. There they are just asking why the packaging was thrown away during set-up... :)
